    Engineers?

I'm a degreed Engineer, too. Worked as one for about 10 years and now have worked in a different field for 10 years. Most engineers that I knew and worked with were not hands-on. Myself, I've been wrenching on cars/bikes since about 14 and consider myself a decent mechanic. Engineers, like most...

    Thinking about getting a Harley

Hey Rob, over priced is subjective, even if I somewhat agree. But, I wouldn't trade my BMW. It is funny to talk about "over priced" in a thread about HD.

    Thinking about getting a Harley

I see you bought the HD, nice bike! Most of my friends ride HD,but I am the outcast and ride BMW. I was going to say you should ride a BMW before buying, but... Ride Safe and have fun. mb289

Odd idle problem: wife's Yukon XL

AstroVic, your 5.3 does have an idle air control valve (motor). It's located on the throttle body and held with two screws. Take the screws off, pull the motor off and genlty clean it. It can and does get "gummed up". I do this about every 10k on my LS1 and I can usually notice a smoother idle...

    99 Z28 LS1, Red Line 1w-30, 6050 miles

Sorry about the lack of background, but I lost my first report and just put the results. I've been using RL for about the past 35K miles. I got the car with 35K, and at the time it was using about 1qt per 5k miles on M1 10w-30. After switching to RL, over time, the oil consumption is way down...

    Red Line 10w-30 LS1 Camaro 5454 miles

Last_Z, forgot about the gas milage. It seems to be about the same as with M1. I've always been happy with my mpg. I average about 26mpg and sometimes get a tad over 27. Keep in mind that most of my miles are highway at 45 - 70mph and most trips are about 40 miles per trip. My LS1 is an A4 with...

    Red Line 10w-30 LS1 Camaro 5454 miles

Last_Z, the RL does seem to feel more peppier than M1 10w40, although this is subjective. RL definitly gives better oil consumption than M1. With M1 10w30 or 10w40 by 2k miles I was down about 1/4 qt. I'm at 2k now on RL and just checked oil again this morning and its only a tick below full...

    Red Line 10w-30 LS1 Camaro 5454 miles

Last_Z, I noticed more noise with the M1 0-40. I also noticed the M1 0w40 sheared down after about 2k miles. Oil pressure with the RL is constant and stayed high through out the OCI. Also, the RL oil pressure is as high as the M1 0w-40 when it's new. I still have some noise with the RL, so it's...

    Red Line 10w-30 LS1 Camaro 5454 miles

This is my first UOA in my 99 Chev LS1. This OCI had 5454 miles on 10w-30 Red Line and the car had 52k miles on it. I purchased the car with 34k miles and have used Mobil 1 10w-30 and 0w-40. At the end of the 0w-40 I did an ARx treatment for 1500 miles followed by a 2000 mile rinse with...

Pics 89,000 Mile LS1 Cylinder Bores

Hi JB, as I said before, I disagree with some of your thoughts. However, I do agree with you that GM, and all American car co., can do better. But I think you miss the point on the F-bodies. Their made for low buck performance. Some corners are cut so the average person can afford to buy. I've...

JB, I also don't understand your thinking on the LS1...not trying to flame, but some of your ascertions are incorrect. First, the LS1 is a very smooth motor, and yes, I've driven many different cars over the years. Mine is smooth as silk. Sencond, what seal leaks are you refering to. Mine has...

Best for 96 Camaro SS ??

Thanks Ryan. I've heard some on LS1.com stating they got new engines because the bores were as large as 3.90"... which is way too big!
