Do aluminum blocks have the same risk of cracking when exposed to water while hot?

Thanks for the replies everyone. I washed my car again today and inadvertently found myself in the same situation where I had driven the car up to operating temperature, let it sit for an hour or so and then drove it to the wash station at my apartment. The temperature gauge was at the same...

Do aluminum blocks have the same risk of cracking when exposed to water while hot?

Thanks for the replies everyone, seems like the consensus is that it’s not an issue.

Do aluminum blocks have the same risk of cracking when exposed to water while hot?

I have a 2020 4runner and took it off-roading today. I drove home and allowed the car to sit for an hour then moved it to the car wash station at my apartment. The coolant gauge was about at about 1/4 when I move it. I washed off the mud and then sprayed down the undercarriage, axle and wheel...

Amsoil severe gear vs Amsoil long life diff fluid?

When you did the diffs on your 4Runner, did you fill them up until they started dripping from the fill hole?

Amsoil severe gear vs Amsoil long life diff fluid?

Thanks for the feedback! I went to purchase some amsoil severe gear from their website but looks like they are out of stock in my area. I’ll have to search around for another distributor.

Amsoil severe gear vs Amsoil long life diff fluid?

I have a 2022 4Runner and Deciding which diff fluid to use. I was about to purchase the severe gear in 75w90 but then saw they offer a long life synthetic diff fluid. does anyone have experience with the long life synthetic diff fluid? Since my 4Runner has an open diff in the rear I would prefer...

STRAIGHT to red-line revs on startup!

How many miles do you have in your 4Runner now? Still running fine? I did the same thing to my 2022 4Runner with about 2700 miles on the car. I was debating using the flood start mode to prime the motor with oil on my first oil change but luckily I decided to try it on a start up after a 10...

How much damage could I have done?

Absolutely! This is pretty much what I did. Should put a disclaimer that you should verify in your owners manual that you have the feature. Luckily my engine was warmed up and only sat for 15 minutes at the longest so there was likely enough oil left in the passageways to build oil pressure...

How much damage could I have done?

Did you have any issues pop up down the road? Thank you for the reply. Makes sense, and I agree. I am totally over thinking it. This is the first new car I’ve ever owned so I’m a little paranoid about possibly damaging something. I’ll continue to drive on and try not to think about it. I’m sure...

How much damage could I have done?

It was too complicated for me to figure out how many revolutions my engine made within the 1 second that it started and revved to 5k rpm so I just went worst case scenario and assumed 5k rpm for 1 second which equates to roughly 85 rotations of the crankshaft. I’m also assuming that the engine...

How much damage could I have done?

Really appreciate your input! I actually did some math to try and put my mind at ease and my engine would have seen wear equivalent to that of a start up directly after an oil change without pre-filling the oil filter. Assuming it takes a few seconds for the oil pump to fill the oil filter...

How much damage could I have done?

Thanks for the explanation! I imagine my engine temperature was still above 150F when I restarted the car and the rpm’s went to 5k. Lesson learned and hopefully I’ll forget all about it by the time my 4Runner hits 200k miles :)

How much damage could I have done?

Thanks, that puts my mind at ease! I don’t plan to ever do it again. Thanks for the reply! It’s possible that I didn’t have the throttle all the way down. Since it’s a push button start, I also assumed the gas and brake needed to be pressed to the floor. That may have also been a factor too...

How much damage could I have done?

Thanks for the responses all, helped put my mind at ease. These 4.0 motors in 4Runners are noisy to begin with so you can imagine how paranoid I was on the ride home.
