I think the engines in modern cars will get 300k. Head gaskets, timing chains and belts, high pressure fuel pumps, timing actuators, and this such are the things that fail. The actual valve train, bottom end, pistons and rings are good for the 300K.
Dr. Haas said this in an old Motor Oil University;
"This is worth repeating: The synthetic 10W-30 grade oil is based on a heavier 30 grade oil while the mineral based 10W-30 oil is based on a thinner 10 grade oil. They are both similar at
operating temperatures yet the 30 grade based synthetic...

I would stick to M1 0w40 since you say it...
I got a recall notice on my 2012 Chevy Equinox. All they did was change the computer with regard to the oil change interval. I have used mobil 1 0w-30 since the car was new. Since the recall, it looks like they changed the computer to cut in half the oil change interval. I don't use the computer...
I am driving my 65 Mustang from Canyon, Tx. to Charlotte, Nc. for the 50th aniversary of the Mustang. This is a drive of about 3000 miles round trip. I have been using Mobil 1 0w-40 with a little added ZDDP to get it up to 1200 ppm zinc. My question is this; Should I go with Mobil 1 15w-50 for...
1970 Ford Maverick.......5 quarts Gulf Multi-G 10w-40.........don't remember the filter
............... In 1970 the oil change probably cost less than a Starbucks coffee today.
I am in Europe and the other day I saw some Agip 5w40 motor oil at a filling station. The price of one, one liter (a little over a quart) of this oil was 29.00 Swiss Francs. At $1.29 for one Swiss Franc that is $37.41 for that bottle. That makes for $180 sum dollars for an oil change before you...
Has anyone seen any VOA's for the new SM oils. I'd like to see the levels of ZDDP and Calcium in these new oils. Can anyone shed any light on the formulations for the new specification oils.
Jerry
In my research, the least expensive way to bring SM oil up to 1200 ppm of zinc is to use Crane Cams' "Superlube" break in additive. It has 107000 ppm of zinc which means you only have to add 1/10-oz (3-ml) of the additive for each quart of oil in your fill. I found this info on the Corvette...

how did modern cars (when they were modern cars) survive on the same 1200ppm of phos for all of those years under SL?
I don't know. Was that before the 100K warranty?
I'm kinda new to the BITOG forums. Some contributors have dismissed the people that claim that the reduction of ZDDP is bad for flat tappet engines. Some have said that the new oil has other anti-wear additives that make them better than the old oils. They seem to follow the oil companies like...
Back to the original question. Does anyone (besides Spyder who is keeping it a secrete) know how much phosphorus and calcium are in Lucas Break In Additive?
