I feel comfortable changing the oil @ 5K mi. OCI's. The extra change was due to the dealer being "nice" and squeezing a freebie change in with an oil that I did not wish to run, for a perhaps unfounded reason (I didn't want a grp. III oil).
Is the only oil that hasn't burned 1 drop in over 1000 miles. Pentosynth, Redline 5W-40, and GC and Agip Synthetic PC 5W-40 all needed oil added at the rate of ~ 1/2 qt. per 1000 miles. So far, none at all with the Motul E-tech 0W-40. Would there be a reason other than the oil itself? I am now...
Price is not really important for the best oil. The GC is a little cheaper but it's availablity (green or gold) is sporadic at the AZ near me. The Motul is more expensive and is online order only. All things being equal what is the best choice for an 05 Audi S4 V-8? Some say ester-based oils...
Like I said, I don't see anything in there that would indicate what the base is. And I mean that in the sense that I am ignorant; not that I am disagreeing w/ anyone. Please explain how you see this or how and what gives an indication as to what the base is; in this case the ester/PAO.
That's what I mean. I saw that but I cannot deduct anything from there that would indicate what its base is. Call me stupid (OK, you're stupid), but I need someone to point out the factor there that says it is PAO/Ester based still. TIA>
fall/winter is this good for? I know I won't get near the point of compromising the oils low temp capabilities, but is the Redline 5W-40 an oil that would be good in harsh winter conditions and sub-freezing temps?
in the gold GC formulation? This is for emissions, I take it. Does this equal less protection? It seems that emissions and optimal engine protection do not go hand in hand.
The 300v is a great oil but is not really appropriate for the street for a few reasons. 1) You will never get to the level of abuse where this oil will actually make the difference. At 8/10's most other quality synthetics will do the same job. 2) It is not an extended drain oil. Reps from Motul...
