I turned 75 today, and do my own oil, brakes, and general maintainence. I want it done right.

Ain't even broke in yet. Next big number coming up on my 1985 Vmax is gonna be 140,000 miles. Congrats, most riders don't get 50,000 miles total in a lifetime of riding.

The old saying "if it feels good, do it!" applies to me, except at 75 years old, "it" means stuff like overmaintining my car. Ask me 60 years ago around 1965, you'd have gotten a different answer 😉!

I did a drain and fill on my 2011 Soul at 75,000 miles. Realizing that only a percentage of the fluid actually exits through the drain plug, I repeated the procedure 3 times over the next thousand miles. That should have given me a 90% or more total replacement. The transmission was working...

Did a belt change at about 75k miles. Used a Gates belt, with Korean made tensioner and water pump. I was ready to order a new belt kit for installation soon, but the Gates belt had other plans. It was a Gates belt. I was gonna change it out this Spring. Never got that far.

We bought the car in 2011 brand new. 3000 mile oil changes, timing belt changed per the schedule. Every maintenance was done. Belt snapped at 141,500 miles. The car was pretty rusty, but ran fine till it didn't. It went to the crusher. Good things never last. I loved that car..

Had a Daewoo for a few years a while ago. Honestly loved it.

Probably 500,000 miles in cars and 250,000 on motorcycles.

The 1300 in my 1966 bug ran like a top for years, but I'm thinking that's not the type of petrol engine you're thinking of

This one's a real head scratcher... When I apply the brakes on the car, the radio display dims. The radio continues to work fine, and the brake lights come on as usual. Any ideas?
