should be between 1 and 3 gallons. Big range I know, but its only $2-$15 total depending on where you buy it, and how much was used. People get so bent out of shape about DEF usage, when in reality if you scale it back, its a minute cost. Heck the stuff is as cheap as windshield washer fluid and cheaper enough times.

Sorry about the rant, not directed at you. Just to me, DEF's cost and usage is not an issue on light duty vehicles. They dont use much at all.

I hope Ford can figure something out. These 6.7s have been having problems as well. I was swinging for them since I saw a lot of design features that were similar to the duramax design.

Ford definately pulled it off with the interiors. Now they need an engine. or they need to sell their interiors to GM. Then there will be a nice truck on the market.

Like what? What design features are similar to the Duramax? What problems have the 6.7s been having?

My best friend is a Ford double Senior Master, and one of 2 diesel techs at his dealership. Barring the 400/800 reflash, in the 2 years the 6.7 PSD has been on the road he has worked on exactly 3 of them. He replaced the secondary water pump on one, one guy put gasoline into his truck and had to have the fuel system cleaned out, the third guy dumped urea into his fuel tank and had to have most of his fuel system replaced because of it. So, 2 years and exactly ONE actual issue.

Everytime I go to that dealership there is a 6.4 truck or two with the cab in the air. That dealership does a huge amount of diesel work, the 6.7s just don't have a high percentage of issues. The 6.7 is proving to be a great engine, and I can't wait to hear about all these design features the 6.7 shares with the Duramax.

We have a couple that recently joined our horse club that have a 6.7. I asked how he liked it... no problems in the first 12K. He said his best fuel mileage was 17.5 mpg on a 350 mi trip. Maybe its not broke in yet? But really not bad since we are considering over 8000 lbs and 400hp. I would love to have a truck like that!!

Really!! I would have had to been there. Not saying its possible but it doesn't seem real. Are they really getting those fuel numbers on those trucks??

The journalist drove this thing was a hypermiller. It involves doing many extraordinary things during driving, some things even illegal such as shutting the engine off while coasting in neutral. Not to mention the fact that he was only running 30 grade oil.

I love these Fords though. My friend's family owns a 99' F-250 with the bulletproof 7.3 That thing easily averages over 20 mpg on 80-85mph interstate trips. His dad was a Ford mechanic and swears by Rotella T 15W-40 even in our brutal winters.

Sounds like what I've heard from my Ford diesel guy as well. He works a lot more on the 6.0 and 6.4's, in fact that's all I ever see him work on (other than my cars, LOL!).

1708 miles on the oil with 28PPM Iron? Screw the fuel dilution, I would be worried about the iron as others have mentioned.

Both great engines, but not even close. Look all placement of turbo & manifolds. Night and day. Bottom half of engine is equally different. They do sound similar though.

Not to be rude but did you notice the 5500 on the unit. I didnt see it until you commented on the fe amount. So in theory most of that should be break in material. If someone was to keep putting in pcmo then i would be concerened about fuel but under 4% should be tolerable for the oil. imo. I think the fuel % should go down when its broken in.

I cant believe the thing had to do its dpf thing 4-6 times in under 2000. That would annoy me. All but one of my trucks in the work fleet has a dpf and it hasnt done a thing in just about 30,000kms. Even the dealer said it was ok and it will do it when it needs to. (2011 466) I think ford should take an old 7.3 and give it a 2012 update. sequential Twin turbo it, slap on a different injection sytem and redo a couple sensors and you have a huge winner. Or get CAT to build them one.

All I got to say is you cant get really technical when you throw PCMO in your diesel. Can someone confirm or debunk a PCMO giving you a better or worse MPG in a diesel?. 28 mpg on highway unloaded with a hypermiler driving it

not really real world testing but whatever. If i bought a new ford it would not be a diesel. Until ford outsources its engine. But a ecoboost now thats a different story. Ford should make a v-10 ecoboost in place of a diesel. torque, horsepower, and fuel economy would be there and according to ford the ecoboost has the longetivity. Diesel might not be the best bet for fullsize trucks and in the next few years it will be decided IMO. I think that because of the ability to make a gas engine clean easier than a diesel.

I saw the 5500, but went into cerebral vapor lock when typing.

Diesel pollution controls are still in their infancy. Remember when cats hit the gas engine market back in the 1970's? Oh yeah......140HP 5+Liter V8 engines. Diesel too will hopefully get better over time.
