Finally pulled the trigger and got rid of my grand prix for a F150 with the ecoboost.

Now the hard decision.... what oil should I use in it. I do have a stash built up but due to warranty i need receipts, so I might just take it all back to walmart, get a store credit and buy motorcraft, rebuy the same oil, or get something else. I'll be sticking to 5k OCI during break in period til 15,000. Since it is a turbo engine, possibly stick with an oil that is HT-06 certified?

I have
17qts QSUD
5qts mobil super syn
5qts M1 HM
5qts Maxlife full syn

Its all 5w-30 which is what this motor requires.

You beat me to it. But dont forget the MC oil filter. Also Id use the MC air filters as well and call it a day. How is it by the way? That is the next truck i buy for sure. If only They had the eco-boost in the raptor id have one in my driveway.

+1 on the filters. being Turbo'ed I suggest the MC air filters also. Don't give Ford anything to nitpick over if a warranty clain arrives. These truck have been good so far but remember these engines are new and most haven't put significant milage on them

very quick truck. mpg hasnt been good do to my lead foot. I'll have to update when I have a full tank and am runing back n forth to work. I'll be curious to see how it does pulling the trailer.

Motorcraft is actually pretty good . Is use Mobil1 imo. On a new engine after break in ect. It's best to start with a full syn and stick with it that way its always clean and in good shape.

And follow the oil life monitor even with synthetic oil, during warranty.

Just use up your stash as others have mentioned. With DI and turbos, I would run nothing but 5w30 synthetics if it were mine.

Gabus in DSM. Good deal, couldnt pass it up

I'm using Mobil 1 5W-30 EP in our company Ecoboost F150. Just an FYI, the oil comes out really dirty looking, even with early oil changes. I'd stick to 5000 miles, instead of the 10K OCI's the computer predicts.

I've not done a UOA, but I can tell you, I've not seen dirtier oil in any modern, gasoline powered vehicle.

2 points: The Ecoboost has camshaft phasers that are known to be sensitive to contaminates and full synthetics are known problem solvers with these. Turbo's, yes, even the water cooled ones, are prone to coking. The hot section, the shaft seals just inboard of the turbine, is still nearly "red hot" and the oil still lubricates this area. Full synthetics prevent problems here too.

Here is a picture of a water cooled turbo, run on conventional oils. Notice that the turbine section is very close to the oil lubricated seals. A water cooled housing helps, but does not eliminate this coking.

In that instance I'd personally run PP 5W-30 for 7,500m OCI. Less or more depending on what kind of driving you do. If you are towin 9,000lb of boat most of the time, I'd say change it more often. If it's mostly highway cruising, go longer.

I'm thinking about using M1 since the new formula has a good dose of Magnesium like the heavy duty oils have.

I agree with this idea.

I do too. PP is a good choice as well, even though it doesn't have this.

I dont know any other oils besides castrol, which I wont use, that has a good does of mg in a 5w-30.
