I have a Redmax 2 cycle string trimmer. The owner's manual calls for the reduction gears to be lubricated by multipurpose, lithium-based grease.

I currently use Valvoline Durablend in my grease gun to lubricate most automotive zerks for ball joints, etc. According to the Valvoline website this grease is a lithium complex based grease. Would the Durablend grease be ok to use in the trimmer? Any other suggestions? Thanks.

Another suggestion is Redline's CV-2.

I use to grease power tools reduction boxes and bearings.

And I have never seen a compatibility problem with having a bit of Lithium grease remaining.

durango7, Valvoline DuraBlend should be fine. I use Ultron Synthetic Grease (NLGI #2) on mine and have for years. I also use it to lubricate the flexible shaft.

I had a weed whacker thast would vibrate a lot- curved shaft model. I put some gear lube laced with graphite in it, and it ran SWEET.
