Zerex G-05

Vehicle is a 03 Toyota Tacoma with a 2.7L 4-cylinder. Is Zerex G-05 safe to use in place of the 'Pink' Long Life factory fill?

G-05 is probably the closest thing yet to a general purpose, extended-life antifreeze that most people can agree on. While the "Big Three" Japanese automakers prefer OAT with a stiff dose of phosphate as the hybrid protection, G-05's twenty-plus year track record using reduced silicate levels along with OAT has found a strong following in Europe. Just do a thorough flush and use distilled or de-ionized water to dilute.

Thanks Ray, you confirmed what I was thinking. I work part time at NAPA and Zerex G-05 cost me $5.80/Gal. The Toyota Stealership wants over $14.00/Gal. Its a no-brainer.

I would still and do pay the $16.95 per gallon for Toyota since it has more stuff (and less) as ray outlined.

I used G-05 in my 1998 Honda. It tastes like chicken.

The issues with the Toyota coolant are:

- cost

- desire to share common coolant in a mixed fleet

- possible issues if hard water is added

- not as tolerant of low coolant level as G-05

G-05 is commonly available (Chrysler, Ford, Mercedes, etc), it works well in most gasoline and diesel applications, it tolerates hard water, and it is more tolerant to cavitation than DexCool or the Toyota coolant.

If you have multiple vehicles it is not a bad choice for a One-Size-Fits-All coolant.
