YouTube advertising has lost it's mind and morality

So many obvious scam products, like that amazing "engineer designed" air conditioning unit showing ice cold COILS when the product is actually just a fan.
It really reflects poorly on Google (who owns YT) that they clearly don't care what false claims are made on their platform as long as there's money to be made.

They also allow so much animal cruelty on their platform. what they do not allow is dissent.
Could just be me but I think Google is a very evil corporation.

I would never under any circumstances click on a YT link to order any item whatsoever.
YMMV. Maybe you really love Google?

I guess it's really all big corporations today? Look at Ford, GM, Toyota, Honda, GE, food manufacturers and on and on and on

I've noticed the uptick in ads on shows that I started watching, but have been reluctant to give them money so as to avoid the ads. I haven't thought much about their morality, they have to pay the bills somehow, but some of the content, particularly the shorts, is just low quality and starting to drive me away. Bought a couple of ebooks last week and have found that scratching the itch.

It's ad space sold to automated systems. They're not going to put a person in charge of watching every single ad.

Google and YT do not allow animal cruelty unless it's for educational purposes like Nature documentaries.

Animal abuse content:
Content where humans coerce animals to fight.

  • Content where a human maliciously mistreats an animal and causes them to experience distress outside of traditional or standard practices. Examples of traditional or standard practices include hunting or food preparation.
  • Content where a human unnecessarily puts an animal in poor conditions outside of traditional or standard practices. Examples of traditional or standard practices include hunting or food preparation.
  • Content that glorifies or promotes serious neglect, mistreatment, or harm toward animals.
  • Content that shows animal rescue that is staged and puts the animal in harmful scenarios.
  • Graphic content that features animals and intends to shock or disgust.

Fake products and claims have always existed.

Youtube lite is like $8.99 a month and kills the adds.

If your watching on a PC there are free ways as mentioned - but none I have found on smart TV.

The problem is if they start selectively killing adds based on content, then that is censorship and soon we will have no firearm video's and the like. Slippery slope. I would rather put up with fans posing as AC.

I tried using brave browser when a video plays I get a full white screen with just audio playback.

I abhor the false content and recent proliferation of AI generated "clickbait" style content to drive monetized viewership on YouTube. However, the amount of learning available for free on the platform is amazing. I cannot begin to fathom how much I have benefited from automotive repair, home improvement, product review and entertainment videos since the genesis of YouTube.

Since much of the planet is composed of visual learners, the impact of YouTube is immeasurable. I view it in the same light as over the air TV broadcasts and FM radio programming. We can choose to consume (e.g., Pine Hollow Auto Diagnostics) or ignore (e.g., Scotty Kilmer) the free content based upon our needs and discretion. Like everything else in life, caveat emptor to the consumer.

This is true.
I just wish the content were available on Rumble or other platforms.

I don't mind legit advertising. I know they have to pay the bills. But when there's an abundance of predatory advertising that preys on the elderly or less aware it's immoral.

Google to pay $324 million to settle conspiracy lawsuit

https://www.courthousenews.com/wp-c...o-style-games-litigation-master-complaint.pdf

Gee....30 seconds of their revenue

A conspiracy.....because virtual casino game players wasted their money buying virtual tokens for a game now want their money back? I mean I'm not surprised on the lack of accountability from casino players....

Here's one of my favorite parts from that:

Last year alone, consumers purchased and gambled away an estimated $6 billion in social casino virtual chips.5 Indeed, of the top twelve grossing apps available on Defendant Facebook, nine are social casinos.

Here's even better parts from two plaintiffs:

“There is no way to escape. . . . I actually was able to stop playing DoubleDown once, but I relapsed. DoubleDown has affected my life in so many ways. . . . Overall, I believe that I have spent well over $220,000 playing DoubleDown. . . . My husband and I dreamed of paying off our house and retiring at age 60. My addiction to DoubleDown likely ruined that plan. The financial consequences have caused a lot of strain in our relationship. When I got hooked on DoubleDown again, I lied to my husband about the total amount I had spent because I was afraid he would divorce me if he were to find out the real amount. He found out anyway, and when he did, he contacted a divorce attorney to start the process of separation. Luckily for me, he decided to give me another chance. I am so thankful for his patience with me, but I feel terrible that I have put him through all this.”

“Overall, I believe that I have spent between $10,000-$20,000 playing social casinos. . . . This kind of loss put a huge strain on my ability to even buy food since I had spent money on a stupid game. I believe social casinos were taking advantage of my addiction. … This game hurt me and the worst part was that when my husband was alive, he would say, ‘You’re not spending money on there are you?’ and I lied. I hate that I have to live with that now.”

Can't fix stupid, but stupid can still sue I guess.

I use youtube as strictly entertainment and not a learning platform (other than what not to do). Service manuals are my source of information for repairs.

What I'm a little concerned with is the amount of AI content advertisements that feature people being violent and abusive to each other. AI has clearly learned the we humans like to see this crap.
