One in a while I run across a Youtube Ad that is almost an hour long. Last night I had one for 40 minutes long. I'll let the 1-2 minute ads run , just to support the channel but does Youtube and it's advertisers really think anyone is going to listen to these long ads ?

You can most always skip long ads after so many seconds. Did the ad in question allow you to skip?

We are living in a time where everyone wants to do business by a subscription model. YouTube is stepping up their site in increments to make it suck more for those not paying a subscription.

You can download the Brave web browser and use it when you go to YouTube to avoid ads. However, keep in mind it screws over websites you want to support like BITOG.

And like I've said before on here years ago, the web is too good to be true. Hosting isn't free.

I pay for the family version of YouTube premium, so no ads. But I think advertisers put those out for people like me who’ll put on some ASMR like bigstackD Casting (no music, no talking, just one Australian breaking down and melting scrap metal) and fall asleep.

I don't think he's not aware of how to skip the ads on YT.
His comment was really about his curiosity if YT and the advertisor really thing anyone sits through a 30 or 40 minute advertisement.

I say probably not!

I had a 15 minute music video on youtube playing and I hopped in the shower listening to it. About 5 minutes in an ad started to play and went on and on and on. I had the same thought, who listens to such a long commercial.

ESPN is nuts, too. A 30 second ad in order to watch a 25 second sports highlight video.

I've had people promote new albums by playing the video of a song. Something like 4-5 minutes. Haven't seen any that is 40 minutes long. That would be a very expensive content to create.

I am aware of skipping ads ......just can't believe someone is going to watch one that is over 2 minutes long

I have YouTube premium. No ads is nice. The deal sealer was it included YouTube Music which if you dig deep enough into settings, there are settings for high res music. Nice on the road. Makes music in the car much nicer to listen to.

Anyone have any idea what the YouTube pay structure and click through $$$ are like?

I often allow ads up to a certain length play to support the channel but wonder how much difference it makes, similar to in video links. And yes I have seen an hour add a few times

Supposedly watching a video straight through reflects better $$$ on the channel but the 5 minutes of patreon thank you’d at the end, yeah unless I’m sleepy not happening.

I’m likely a bad YouTuber that doesn’t make money or positioning for the channel

I use the appropriate software with plugins and haven't seen a single ad online in over 10 years, but yes, if I were subject to such psychological irritants, I would skip anything beyond 30 seconds. Time is the only currency that matters to me.

My buddy and his hubby do the family plan thing as well. Last year they added me to their "family".
So much better... And unlimited "free" access to YouTube music. Works wonders for me..
I forget how much it actually costs, but I slipped them $75 earlier this year for my share, and I let them share my account on another streaming service I'll not name.

With Brave browser on PC and mobile, you never have to worry about YouTube ads or any other ads for that matter.
Thanks.....but I'm not looking to eliminate them and I'm sure Youtube doesn't mind airing them as long as they get paid. I just can't believe advertisers think someone is going to sit thru a 40 minute ad.

I've never purchased anything from any ad, been swayed to vote a certain way, or have any want to look at any ads while I'm browsing. I just see it as 100% annoyance. So now I'm not annoyed anymore when I use this browser.

I’ve likely slept through one once or twice

Still wonder what if any payout they get
