My GTI is getting an oil change this weekend. I have an assorted variety of oils sitting in the garage going to waste. So, I've decided "what the heck", I'm going to mix it all together and run it for 3-4k highway miles in the GTI. The mix will consist of:

2 qt's Motorcraft 15w40
1 qt. "Q" HP 10w30
1 qt. Motorcraft 5w20
3/4 qt Pennzoil 10w30
Purolator filter

Oh, the humanity!!! I know my plan makes many of you cringe, and makes a few of you say "What a maroon (sic)".

I'll most likely use PP or "Q" again, with a Pure One filter in 3-4k miles.

When I have leftovers, I put them in my dad's van.

Currently I have a bottle for draining the minute amounts of fresh oil left from oil changes and engine additives. When that get's full (maybe a couple years) it will go in my dad's van

Don't see a problem with it - only problem I see is a waste of a good oil fill. That mix will easily do 5-7k miles, even in your turbo 1.8....

I will do an "orphan" mix of all the stuff that has collected over time but only in a vehcle with over 100k on the engine. This year it will be a cooler line trans flush on my younger Brother's 96 Suburban with over 200k on the clock. It is speced fpr DexIII...so it will get:

1. 2 quarts Toyota TIV
2. 8 Qts Castrol MV ATF
3. 2 Qts GM DexVI
4. 1/2 qt Mobil 1 MVATF
5. 1 qt Honda Z-1

I'll throw the T-IV & Z-1 in first so some gets flushed out and the DexVI goes in last.

my wife's friends with a neighbor of whom I don't really like, and I got roped into helping her with her 95 civic because she doesn't have a lot of money and "no man!"
So after listening to her sob stories, I go out and get the cheapest oil filter I can find, usually an AZ valucraft filter that's basically a fram for $2
I recycle my oil bottles and make sure they're empty of all oil. I got a oil bottle drain that lets you put up to 5 bottles of oil upside down and they drip down into 1 bottle that you attach. so after a bit of time, I get a quart of "extra" oil which I put away for emergencies. Well I have about 4 quarts of my emergency oil, consisting of:
mobil 1, valvoline synpower, valvoline oil treatment, exxon, pennzoil, qs, chevron conv., motorcraft, even has drips of Dex III AND MMO.
So now since I don't like this woman.. she gets a cheapo oil filter and 4 quarts of oil. A little bit of goodness in each bottle. Fortunately she comes around every 7-8 months for her oil change and it's not an issue now. I have free oil for her civic, so far, the civic hasn't complained at all.
Who said mixing oil brands/weights was bad? I think I'm debunking that myth AND recycling at the same time!

If I had such a neighbor, my wife would not offer my services, since she would be well aware that I wasn't fond of the woman.
If, however, I changed oil for someone because they really were short of cash, I would give them something good out of the stash, not stuff I would not use personally.
I'm not sure that the filters I have for the Accords would fit that Civic, but I would use something halfway decent in any event.
Dregs that I would not put in the Aerostar would not be used by me in someone else's car.

It will be fine. One to consider though is that molacule of different sizes do not make the best ball bearings......For less friction and better flow making all the molacule the same size has it's advantages.

I am sure all of use have either had a junker or our kids did or our girlfriends etc......I often saved up the 1/4-1/2 quart left over from various oil changes and they went in one big jug. When it was full it got used on what ever junker I had around that needed an oil change. SO Franken Brew's are rather common on this site they ahve been since it's inception. I have yet to see where it made any difference good or bad in any application.

I have a Franken brew out in the Garage that is left over high end oil and some low brow diesel oil. I had two odd ball quarts of VP Racing 5W30 left over because my Dad used two quarts. So since 2 quarts does me no good I looked around and found that I had two quarts of RTS in the jug still so I tossed my two quarts of VP in that one gallon jug. I have not used it yet. I did not do it one purpose so much as I just had to use them up and never planed on order any more VP since the price is so high on it. So it happens all the time. I normaly prefer to keep the viscositys the same so I can tell if their is a lot of shearing or not when I look at the UOA when you mix it all together like that if you do not send a sample in you have no clue how your oil behaved.

When I make a Franken brew which is almost every oil change I prefer to play with the additive levels not so much the base stocks. So I do not usualy mix oils I just add additives to give the oil a little boost....I like my oils like I like my ladies loaded from top to bottom like the Prom Queen not anorexic and anemic like a female marathon runner!Too many oils today are anemic and anorexic when it comes to additives!

After my Frankenbrew oil change today, I realized I was almost a quart short. So I picked up a quart of Mobil Clean 5000 10W30, and added it to the 'brew.

When I hear of people draining perfectly good oil thousands of miles earlier than necessary, I tell them I hope they have another vehicle to pour it into.

The OP clearly has another vehicle which is perfect for some good used oil.
