`03 VW Golf 2.0 - OE filters from dealership, just 'cause I like my local VW parts dept.
`93 Volvo 240 - Mann filters, 'cause nothing else works better on a Volvo

The Grease oil filter study at the top of the list shows some various filters, here is the Hastings if I did this right...

http://www.oilfilterstudy.com/hastings-lf279.htm

The centertube has rectangular impressions that has openings in the sides of the impressions, reminds me of treadplate design. (Baldwin also has the same design- article says that Baldwin mfgs Hastings)

I have only seen this "version" of the Ac PF52 just the other day. I don't know how big a player it is out of those 5 versions so far.

If it's a Volvo, it gets a Mann.

If it's anything else (including the lawn tractor), it gets either a Wix/NAPA Gold or a PureOne.

But if it's a Ford and I'm out of the above, I will slap on a Motorcraft in a pinch.

I'm using primarily Purolator filters. The filter is the paper insert type, so it's not readily available by more than a few manufacturers.

I used STP for a while, but then they switched suppliers to being made in India, and now their filters look cheaper than Frams!

You AC Delco guys forgot the Chinese versions that showed up in Michigan. They had ground-up newspaper for the filter element. Outside, they looked like bona-fide AC Delco's!!!

My work place discount gets me Napa Gold filters for about $3.60. Pure Ones and Motorcraft used also.

Brian B. and others, how do you recognize an AC Delco E core filter versis the old style AC Delco? The AC Delco with the orange ADBV is made in Mexico. Where is the ACD E core made?

You can check out the details of Ecore at the champlabs.com website. They have an Ecore brochure that can be downloaded. The most obvious visual cue is the extra set of holes around the outlet hole. Another is the plastic cage (as opposed to perforated metal) center support that can be seen through the outlet hole.

I believe (but don’t know for certain) the AC Delco E-Cores are made in the US.

I use FL820s motorcraft on my 97 mustang, Purolator plus (2.99 at Sears) on 92 buick skylark, and supertech ST3593A on 87 Mazda B2000, the ST3593A feels and looks like a good filter.

Mobil 1, Union Sangyo Nippon, AC Delco, Toyota Purolator, Bosch Premium, and the odd SuperTech.

I use fram, because I like to live dangerously! (and because mine is really a catridge filter thats made in the UK and no matter what brand it is its exactly the same)

Since all 3 of the vehicles I maintain (2 are mine and 1 is my Mom's)are GM's my current plan is to use AC-Delco PF52's on all of them but this sight has a way of changing my mind on what to use so who knows what I'll be using next year.

There's an AA right up the street from me; I've been using ST but this merits some thought.
There was a lot of talk about them when they first came out. Do a search on the name and you will find several threads

I emailed Quaker State about a year ago:

"I noticed that your oil filters have recently changed color (from green to white). Does this mean that you have changed oil filter manufacturers? Who currently manufactures your oil filters?"

Here was their reply:

"The color change is a simple cost saving measure. Quaker State Filters are manufactured for us by Purolator. Thank you for your interest in our products."
