Your favorite non-OEM halogen headlight bulb?

I have been using MTEC bulbs. If bought from authorized reseller, they come with lifetime warranty. I have not bought new bulbs since 2002. They usually ast a year, and then I get replacements for free.

I do not see the Nighthawks at my local walmart anymore, in fact about half of their bulb section is gone.

Sheesh, I hardly ever saw headlight bulbs at Wal-Mart in stock. What limited stock they have. I think if you want to get GE nighthawks. You might have to go to Target or online.

I did not even look at Traget, I totally forgot about them. I know they are really limited in the automotive department. I had to settle for the XtraVision. Walmart really crapped out on their bulb selection.

One of the bulbs in my 97 Saturn finally bit the dust (yes its orig.) :)
AutoZone has Xtravisions for my ride 9006 XV-2 low beam for $20 a pair. That doesn't sound right from what I've read on prices for these bulbs.

You can get the same bulb at Walmart for $18 a pair.

A couple years ago I bought Philips NightGuide lamps for my wife's Mitsu. I didn't remember what kind (or what brand), but she never had any complaints about them. Well, now I've noticed I just don't see as well driving my Saturn at night (may be it has to do with turning 50 in a few days). Doing some comparison shopping around the local stores, I found these lamps again at the local Meijer, $35 a pair. I was leaning towards the Sylvania Xtravision, but I figured if my wife didn't complain about the NightGuides they must be pretty good, so now I've got them in my Saturn.

I found PIAA is a real nice bulb. I couldn't find any for my driving lights so I went to Sylvania BriteStar(?). I decided to change the headlights on my 02 F-150 to a Europen style. They came with standard light bulbs so I replaced them also with the Sylvania brand. I'm seeing more about the HID bulbs and the prices are coming down so it looks like they're next. I like having a bright enuff light to be seen during the day as I don't drive at night.

I've been using Toshiba HIR bulbs for the past few years. Much more light compared to my old silverstars.

EWWW PIAA,

I hate to be the messenger of truth, but if you look at reviews of PIAA bulbs, and I mean real reviews where people took light meters, and voltage meters to them you'd be shocked at how uh well Unbelievably Horrible, and worthless they are. There were a couple of really good reviews showing how bad the PIAA's were and why, one was on one of the Audi forums, among others. Their 55w=100w is nonsense, and really misleading. The bluish, purplish, color appears brighter due to those being high frequency colors, and humans perceive the Glare as brighter. How many companies can sell just about identical products, as completely different items? "Super Plasma GT-X" "Star White" "Xtreme White Plus." It's just a marketing Gimmick. As journalists say to be judgmental of products that have labels that give no real meaning, Like "Super Plasma GT-X." PIAA must have a 13 year old working in the name department. If you look at their website info on their HID bulbs they explain that you should upgrade to their 6400k, or 6600k "Super Cobalt" bulbs as factory hid is 3800k. Thats really pathetic on their part if they can't even list correct information. All factory hid bulbs are 4100k, or 4300k, not 3800k.

After 10 years of use, one of the OEM bulbs on my Malibu went out and I swapped out both bulbs with Philips Crystal Vision. I was a little concerned since they're advertised as being like HID's in color and I didn't want to go around looking like a poser...

The light is definitely whiter than the OEM's, but it's not blue like the faux HID's. So far I'm happy with them, not sure if the light is actually better or if it's just the new vs. 10-year-old bulb effect, but I'd buy them again, even without the Meijer 20% off sale and an additional "20% off on one general merchandise item" coupon.

I like Hella's Optilux line of bulbs. I use the Extreme XY Yellow Bulb. These are their "all weather" bulbs that produce a yellowish light which, for me, cuts down on the glare.

I like the blue lights. I have Nokya bulbs in my lincoln. Looks exactly like HID. My buddy who has HIDs in his G35 dose not get compliments like I do. People think I really have HIDs. I even get the angry old people who yell at me for High Beeming, thinking my lights are to bright. I will post a Pic of them up here in a new thread.

To each his own. I know ALOT of people do not care for and/or hate the blue lights.
