I wish I had an older beater ... so I could make cheesy, home-made aero mods and bolt/staple/glue them to my car without fear of remorse.

When I was in high school (2+ decades ago) I wanted to make my own aero kit for a VW Rabbit. Give it a pointy nose and mount a short wing on the back of the roof ... then paint the whole car copper/bronze.

If I could get rear skirts for my 2006 Civic that looked well-made and matched the car's exterior ... and solid front wheel covers ... and a deepened chin spoiler (splitter) I would consider it. It might even look good if the components were well made and fit without exposed rivets, gaps, etc ...

I definitely need to join that ecomodder forum ...

I always thought that something like this would be a sensible evolution. I would have thought they would have shortened the front and made all axles steering axles so to duplicate the 5th wheel operation. It would only add the length of the front bubble for seating, controls, and aerodynamic enhancements.

All those aero mods will be fun with the ICE buildup during the winter months.

I've had times where after 20-30 miles on the freeway going straight, I've had to get out and kick off the ice buildup in the front wheel wells to turn the car once I got off the freeway.

I use pipe insulation to block off the cooling openings on the Prius, and vary the amount of blocking depending upon the season. Hot, I block only the upper openings. Very cold, I block all but the driver's side of the lower opening (where the inverter cooling radiator is located). Seems to be good for a couple of mpgs.

EDIT: And when my CAN-View was still working, I saw no undue elevation of the coolant temps. This tells me the engine still cools itself just fine (to regulated temp), and I was just losing less heat to "overcooling".

I did a few aero-plugs on the CRV. Wish I had a camera. I had some black plastic from an advertisment sign.(I hate those illegal solicitation signs and tear them down..."I Buy Houses" or "Cheap Insurance") I fit it into two outboard openings and the lower half of the lower grille. I'm not worried about cooling. It took only 2 screws on the hard-to-do outboard bumper cut-outs but the others were just pop-ins.
