YOU THINK THIS IS OVERKILL...USING Mobil 1?

Mobil 1 is at least as good as Valvoline conventional oil but the difference does not justify the price unless you are a NASCAR fan, then it's ok. For about a buck more a quart you could run RLI. For a lot less you could run something like Motorcraft. How bout Valvoline synthetic or Pennzoil synthetic, cheaper than Mobil 1 and though to be a better oil by many here.

Check that fuel dilution isn't thinning the oil due to short trips. Is M1 overkill? There is no such thing. However, it may not be ideal for your application. JMO

Is this a thought that using conventional is better and change it often because fuel dilution will be increased with all the short trips? I thought synthetic can withstand that better than a conventional?

Do we really have fuel dilution problems with modern day fuel injected computerised engines that adjust the air/fuel ratio 5 billion times a second?

Since running Valvoline already why don't you try Maxlife it is a PAO blend. I think it is designed with engines like yours in mind. Plus it is cheaper than Mobil 1.

If you've been following this long drawn out SFCP saga, you'd know he's already tried Maxlife and was disappointed because it didn't cure his leaky seal. And besides that, Maxlife is not Energy Conserving.

We had a 2001 with similar driving. Mobil 1 10w30 was good to about 6000 miles and would then clatter on startup. 5-30 aged too quickly, ran poorly sooner. They'd go 10k miles easily during distance commuting... Either a gpIII every 5-6k miles or conventional every 3. I recall an amsoil study that showed valvoline conventional just below M1 syn in almost every test. Valvoline impresses me...
