That's just nuts then! Mine are all ASUS and it seems only the Broadcom chipset wireless NIC's are affected.

The Network guys always tell me "we only support Cisco NIC's" even AFTER Cisco announced they'd stop selling them.

Hard to tell managers they need to throw down another $150 for an external wireless device after they buy a new laptop, for every laptop they purchase. I thought that policy was ridiculous. The cheap stuff from Broadcom & Intel works, it just needs to be tinkered with to make it work.

I went through that when I was at UNB. 12 mil grant to upgrade the network, everything was 3COM. ONLY 3COM nics were allowed on the network.

Actually, they aren't bad with Cisco or 3COM switches. On other hardware.... yeah. Though the B and C are a LOT better than the old 905 was.

I remember the 509 ISA card when it was the "creme de la creme" of the ISA cards.

Yup, still around. Even AMD made NIC's back then. I have one, non-PnP, all jumpers :)

Yet another Vista issue:
Negative Perception of Vista will Hurt Microsoft

Anecdotally, I'm often asked by friends and acquaintances about new computer purchases, and its striking how often I've been told that they're aware of how "bad" Vista is as they ask what they can do to avoid it or at least mitigate the problems.

People don't WANT Vista. People WANTED Windows 95.

Looks like Apple has taken Microsoft's crown jewel: marketing. Microsoft has lost it. MS delivered 3 years late and gutted the promised item list. Those Mac vs PC commercials only add fuel to Microsoft's own fire.

Not that Vista is terrible, it's not. It's like trading in your 2004 Altima for a 2006 model. Sure it's newer, but is THAT much better? Doubt it. Just a higher payment.

If the 2006 Altima weighs more than the 2004, burns more fuel, runs slower and costs more, then that's a valid analogy except for the fact that software doesn't wear out, while cars do, so there is some additional value to the newer Altima because it has more wear left in it.
