Ok...went and purchased some esso xd-3 15w40 for my 95 cherokee this afternoon. I am thinking of running this for spring/summer - summer/fall intervals and then changing to xd-3 0w40 for the winter intervals. What do you think? Any problems with switching between the conventional and synthetic?? Would i be better to run 0w40 all year?

You could run the XD-3 0W-40 all year but that would be too boring

...the mix you came up with sounds great...I do the Delvac 1 and XD-3 0W-40 switch with my 2 Jeeps to keep things interesting

I just talked to Esso Tech yesterday, I run 0-40 XD3 in Cummins Diesel winter, now I will run 33%/66% XD3 syn to diesel summer, he okayed this blend. I do this to keep oil pressure up and have a syn content year round.

Right now, XD3 15-40 is on for $2.08 here in Sask, reg price is around 2.70, with that saving on 66% dino content, I am doing a 33%/66% syn to dino blend for nearly the same price as a regular priced full XD3 conventional 15w40 OCI.

Yuk did the homework on what I say here now, SuperStore(western canada) and Loblaws (easternCanada) sell 15-40 President Choice oil.

Buy a bottle, take it home, see the 3 stars on bottle bottom, that is Esso, look at green stamp directly under the pouring bottle on back of bottle above the lable, Esso stamp. The API rating is CI-4/SL.

Now, Yuk bought a bottle of this P.C. oil, he phoned Esso, he told Esso that his children peeled off the lables and he did not know what his "Esso" oil was. He gave Esso the stamped green serial # on the P.C. bottle, Esso replied "Esso XD3 15-40 conventional oil, Strathcona, Alta."

This P.C. 15-40 (XD3) sells daily in 12 case lot for $1.80 liter at SStores or Loblaws. It is convient if one lives in large area like Toronto and your buying buy a flat or two then with groceries. Either way, Esso gets their money whether XD3 sell in P.C. Bottle or Esso bottle. I prefer to support my small town local agent, he is few blocks out of way from other stores, no inconvience for me.
