'tis possible

One possibility for excessive gear wear is that the unusual angular-contact ball-bearing pair used on the diff carrier lost preload and disturbed the correct hypoid contact area. It wouldn't take much clearance for this to happen.

That's legit awesome on the shop to not only own up to it but also produce a video showing their mistake.
Option A: Suck it up, take it like a man.

Option B: Make a video about how much of a man you are and how manly you're taking it. Find the most outlandish reason why a BMWs front differential grenades in a day other than It's a front differential on a BMW. Have the video pay for itself. Rake good will and money by monetizing the fact that you're a stand up person not interested in money.

BMW front diffs take gear oil. If it was the transfer case - that one we can discuss, it's unicorn milk boiled on a solar stove at full moon.
