Had a bag which should have contained a watch stolen by a USPS person. We live in a Masonic Retirement Community and mail is delivered to a mail room in the facility and put in locked boxes there. So it absolutely was stolen en rout. I will go to the PS tomorrow with the shipping codes.

How long does it take for the refund? If ever:cautious: I am not going thru Amazon..its not their fault. I had this occur decades ago and ultimately did not get a resolution.

A refund? On what, your postage cost?

Did you buy shipping insurance?

The watch was shipped in a bag? Not a box? That could be why. So you received an empty bag? Was it ripped open?

My daughter has a silversmith business and ships via usps and takes months to get insurance payouts when they lose items. Often they will defend their delivery people and say they just forgot to scan an item as delivered. Ultimately she gets paid but can be 6 months. One time a packaged was located almost a year after it was lost.

While not Amazon's fault, if you paid Amazon for the watch, it is best to start the process with them. Often only the seller can make the claim for loss. It will probably be much faster as well. Only if you directly paid USPS for shipping would it make sense otherwise.

Not trying to minimize your situation, but was the watch under $150 or over $1500 ?? This makes a huge difference in how the resolution is treated. I collect watches, I know a bit about this stuff.

The shipping bag could have been damaged in handling by the USPS allowing the watch box to come out or it could have been rifled open by a postal employee or even the mail room clerk at your retirement facility. Postal employees are not supposed to deliver packages that have been damaged or emptied without marking the package "received without contents," etc. File a claim with Amazon, then they can file a claim with the postal service as the shipper.

The Sender is supposed to file claims as the Sender is who purchased the the shipping service and any additional insurance if they chose it (including the default insurance of $100 on most packages). The recipient doesn't have a contract with the USPS, the Shipper does.

Bingo.

In fact, OP doesn't even seem to have any evidence to so strongly accuse a faceless USPS employee. Maybe apologize?
Apologize to the Government😂🤣. Problem solved. Went to the local PO with the empty bag. They indicated that the watch was delovered to the local PO (them) and the package was empty. Amazon lost it. Already got my money back...Case closed!!!

It's also possible that the item never made it *into* the package to begin with.

I ordered a watch last fall from the big retailer that sponsors a Thanksgiving Day parade and the box arrived sealed, undamaged, not even a crease, but very light. I opened it and the only thing inside was the receipt. The box showed no signs of tampering or having been resealed after it left the store so all I can think of happening is that someone helped themself as the box was being packed. Fortunately, the store was good about replacing it quickly.

Hopefully, you will have a quick resolution.
