Even it that is not the norm i would not put that in any engine never mind something that besides the house is the second biggest investment most people make.

I will never understand the mentality.
Spend a lot of money on a car then go low rent on the oil, or trying to squeeze the last yard out of the oil and fluids.
They are the single most important things in keeping the engine and drive train alive and in good condition.

On the other side is this mentality of running cheap lubes then spending an extra $20-$25 to see if doing the job.
IMHO spend the $20 on better oil in the first place, go with a conservative OCI and leave the UOA's alone.
UOA is fine if you suspect there is an issue of some kind but IMHO totally unnecessary for most engines.

I had a delivery service for many years. I bought 5 Dodge mini vans all with 100k or more on them. I used Super Tech conventional oil and changed it at around 5k which was about every 3 weeks.I never had an oil related failure. Now the transmissions were a whole other nightmare.

Theres Chrystler for ya

Well I just put the Synthetic ST in my Si. Didn't find anything at the bottom of the 5 quart bottle.

I've put 20,000 miles on this car in 3 years, and I've done my oil changes according to the maintenance minder. That's about 6 oil changes in that time. In another 6 months it will be out. Why should I spend more money on expensive oil, if I'm only gonna use 1/3 of it's useful life (TBN)? I would rather put the money saved for other maintenance items, like brake/clutch fluid; transmission fluid; and spark plugs. Honda says to change the spark plugs every 100K miles, but I'm not too sure about that.

Is that the original bottle? I've never seen Supertech in a clear bottle.

Look closely: It's Supertech SM-rated oil. So, it's years old and the additives settled in the bottle. I'd never use ST oil simply because I'm not going to support WM, but I'm not sure I get the problem here? Additives settle when oils have been sitting on the shelf for years--that's why you shake ancient bottles that have been sitting on the shelf.

The oil has proven to work well.

My father in law runs Supertech Syn in his cars and has for several years. Changes them at 10k and the filter at 5k religiously.

I keep trying to get him to pay an extra 50 cents for QSUD but he won't. If it's working for him, then it should work for anybody. I personally buy brand names on sale but hey, Supertech is an API spec oil.

ST as a Mag 1 clone came in the clear bottles, but now that Warren Distribution has started producing ST and all other house brands at a different facility, packaging and additives are different.
ST Synthetic runs great in my TB. I would not hesitate to run it again, however I intend to run our bulk Gulfpride 5w30 semi-synthetic next.

Man that`s a trip!!!!!! I`ve had very slight hints of discoloration at the bottom of oil bottles that have sat a few years undisturbed, but never a layer of sludge like that! I just looked at the bottom of an opened SJ rated half quart of RP 20W50 that has sat undisturbed for a few years in a box here at my house and it`s clean as new, nothing on the bottom whatsoever. So would I use Supertech? Never in a million years! The same 5 quart jug for a name brand oil is only $4 more. I don`t see saving $4 in a $41,000 dollar car. I`ll pry open my wallet and spend the extra $4 for a jug of Pennzoil,Valvoline,or Castrol.

Mobil Super 5W20 is $14.17 for 5-qt jug, SuperTech is $12.72, the difference is $1.45.

If the average OCI is 5k miles, the Extra Cost in using Mobil Super in an engine requires 5 quarts is 30 cents per thousand miles, or 1 penny per 30 miles.

I don't buy oil, dino or synthetic, unless it's on sale (with or without rebate) real cheap. I prefer to buy name brand dino when I can get it for less than $1-1.50 a quart, for synthetic the cut off price is $3 a quart or less. My preferred price is less than everyday price of SuperTech, therefore I never had SuperTech oil in my engines. I did use SuperTech brake fluid.

Oh My.

So use the word purchase if you think that only investments are financial ones that have an expected positive outcome.

Without getting into a whole discussion about it, people invest in in many things.
Companies invest in new tooling to improve productivity, mechanics invest heavily in their tools, transportation companies invest in new trucks, buses, etc, all these things have a finite life span and a level of calculable depreciation.

Generally when someone purchases a new new car its for their daily use, they are investing in reliability (hopefully) and the insurance the cars warranty offers against catastrophic failures possibly wiping out the family budget.
