BMW = bring my wallet. See what the Car Wizard on Youtube has to say about older BMW's.
Yeah you probably shouldn't get into a BMW without accepting they need more care, as in TLC, maintenance and repairs. If your a real car guy who fusses over cars then it's no problem, they are an enthusiast vehicle.BMW = bring my wallet. See what the Car Wizard on Youtube has to say about older BMW's.

They respond especially badly to being treated like a 90's Honda Civic.
If you get one, get one which has been cared for and be prepared to undertake maintenance and repairs.
I hate to have to repeat myself, but the true BMW experts at BITOG are folks who have yet to sit in a BMW- much less drive one. Fifth-hand hearsay trumps any actual ownership experience.Yeah you probably shouldn't get into a BMW without accepting they need more care, as in TLC, maintenance and repairs. That's hysterically funny! Did you think of it yourself?BMW = bring my wallet. See what the Car Wizard on Youtube has to say about older BMW's.
Every model/engine family has its own list of stuff which always breaks at certain km/age intervals, just look up for whichever model/engine you have a fancy for. IE I just did engine mounts on my F10 at 80,000 km, my G30 had water pump and lines replaced at 90,000 km. Both have weeping rocker cover gaskets. My G30 needs an adaptive headlight sensor.Like what?
True and its always stories about brothers, uncles, sisters sons dog who had huge repair bills. When you drill down deeper it was an abused car they bought cheap, or abused it themselves.I hate to have to repeat myself, but the true BMW experts at BITOG are folks who have yet to sit in a BMW- much less drive one. That's not living thoughOr you could get a boring Nissan Sentra like my wife's old car and do normal oil changes, 4 sets of brakes pads, 2 sets of brake shoes, one water pump and one alternator in the 300k miles it was on the road before it got rear ended and sent to the crusher. Oh, and throw in a few sets of plugs, wires, air filters, etc.
How is that different from complete suspension on Toyota I supposed to do at 80,000mls? Teo sets of brakes bcs. quality of Toyota brakes? Leaking timing cover that 2GR-FE is known (engine oit in 90% of models)? Poor quality hinges on Sienna I had that got twisted ($3,800 just for trunk lid, before labor)?Every model/engine family has its own list of stuff which always breaks at certain km/age intervals, just look up for whichever model/engine you have a fancy for. The good thing is because these are common issues, parts and repair are reasonable easy and cheap. Genuine BMW parts have actually proven well here.
My wife had 2005 Sentra. Nissan wanted $400 for one control arm in dealership. I think arm was $160. Mind you arm for BMW 7 series is like $130.Or you could get a boring Nissan Sentra like my wife's old car and do normal oil changes, 4 sets of brakes pads, 2 sets of brake shoes, one water pump and one alternator in the 300k miles it was on the road before it got rear ended and sent to the crusher. True your correct, I keep forgetting the old reliable Japanese stalwarts of the 80's, 90's and 00's have managed to rid themselves of the cheap and reliable affliction. How is that different from complete suspension on Toyota I supposed to do at 80,000mls? I had 6 BMW’s in total (among other Euro vehicles) and I don’t fond them any more or less reliable. Just different issues. Now, bad bushing on control a on BMW is far more obvious than on Toyota or Honda, but that is bcs. vehicle’s suspension is far tighter and more communicative. But they generally last far longer.

Toyota in the US delayed downsizing as much as possible. Issues with engines etc. are consequence of that. In Europe where downsizing is a trend since beginning of 1990’s they had huge issues, especially with diesel engines. For regular cars they just gave up at one point and bought engines from BMW, until they switched just to hybrids few years back.True your correct, I keep forgetting the old reliable Japanese stalwarts of the 80's, 90's and 00's have managed to rid themselves of the cheap and reliable affliction.
Probably why people keep buying Toyota etc., and paying big money now, almost BMW money.
