When you include hybrids and PHEV vehicles as electrics, the Peak number of Internal Combustion Only vehicles was reached in 2016 with sales of 80 million Worldwide.

Now worldwide automotive sales are back at around 80 million, but 60 million were “ICE” and 20 million were “electric”, including hybrids and PHEV’s.

In my best Foghorn Leghorn, "They's a while lot a obfuscatin' goin on they're."

Hybrids ARE internal combustion vehicles.
Sorry. They have been accepted as electric. Don’t be a grandpa. :D But for grandpas, pure internal combustion vehicles with no electric assist, have reached their peak in 2016. How’s that? ;)

Folks are drifting from the intent. ICE vehicles not assisted by electrical motors, have reached a peak in sales in 2016. That way we can set the “definitions” aside and realize the direction auto sales are headed in. ;)

China has half the fleet. There not doing it for technical reasons, there doing it for political reasons.

US light vehicles as a whole peaked in 2016 - when they were all pretty much ICE. So that "fact" is a false strawman also.

Never trust data you have not manipulated yourself.

The original post is based on world wide data. You’re drifting to USA data.

If over half of the EV fleet is in China, how can you not talk about China?

Besides, there was no "article", simply numbers, so any reasonable person would go where the numbers take them.

This whole post sounds a lot like something written by the politburo. You want us to accept your "data" but no one else is allowed to even post any data?

Hold on. China’s data in included in the World Wide data. If you like, post some world data.

Your posting about ICE vs EV. If half the EV's in the world reside in China, and over half of the annual sales in EV's are in China, then that portion of the story revolves around China.

So its on topic to discuss specifically about China because thats half the dataset. Its called an imbalanced data set because one sample dominates it, so data analysts understand that the dataset is skewed and mostly unusable. If you want to have a accurate discussion you need to split the dataset.

Your trying to manipulate the data to make your point, by excluding any discussion about China specifically - which is a command and control economy and not a organic market.

We’re talking about the world. If you have a problem with that, do your own post about something. Why not present something about the USA?

May I use this line?
My wife, a retired, 'ranking' accountant, is still laughing.
I used to do reporting and early stages of "BI" at my last job.
Every department (including accounting) had different ways to spin a standardized report.

Each department head had their own way to spin an in-process inventory report to make their metrics and performance look better. Then they'd all come back to me when none of them matched up.

So based on your posts, they are indicating that much of the public is unwilling to give up the convenience of gasoline or do not have a reliable solution to charge up.
So to this day, the most popular sales that include an electric motor is one with a ICE.

One thing I dont pay much attention to is the rest of the world when looking at stats. North America lives better and differently then most of the world and we always drove the most expensive and largest cars (and boats). Keep in mind a country like China you can buy an EV for $4000, actually many brands $4000 to $15,000. Kind of like Honda is the world king producer of motorcycles, but they are all mostly mopeds.
We in the USA tend to think of EVs as expensive because they dont cost as low as $10,000. Well here is a good read

Actually, all it says is that sales of gasoline and diesel powered vehicles, you know, the ones that don’t have a hybrid component, and don’t have a PHEV component, have stopped growing ( when looking at the entire world data).

I’ll challenge someone else to bring out the USA data, and see what’s happening.

phev and hybrid are ice vehicles.

Phev and hybrid had rebates and were somewhat pushed by unobtainable CAFE and politics.(at least in USA)

Garbage in, Garbage out.

Data for this at the world level is not useful.

You also dont quote a source for these numbers?
