Wonder what happened to this bearing?

Out of the rear axle in my Jeep. Only 1/2 of the race is like this. Wonder why?

Was the axle ever left sitting in salt water? Otherwise I'm thinking improper heat treating.

That's what happens to many roller and ball bearings when they are worn excessively.

155K (correct?)...overworked vehicle...possible introduction of abrasives in the desert...just wore out.

The "Parkerization" wore off and you get what you see.

X2 on wore out. I don't see any blue or indication of overheating (lack of lube). Looks like it's just time to replace.

Sand intrusion?

Not sure what a D35 vs a D44 would have to do with it. Most D35’s are put through more than what a D44 go through. Think about it. It’s a 35. People don’t care and abuse them thinking they’ll break.
