With MPG ZDDP is more important than viscosity

2023 F150 5.0 / 3.373. Averaging 55 - 65 MPH. Motul X-cess 8100 Gen2 5w-40 / E40 as the fuel. 100 degree weather.

First pic is strictly highway from onramp to exit. Second is the return trip with 15% city. No mountains, no tailwind, none of that. These are normal conditions in the metro Atlanta highway system. Cumming, GA to Conyers and back. Previous hand calculations put the computer within .5 - 1 MPG of actual. Very impressive for a full-size. Best MPG to date.

Nice Dash Pictures! Can we get 1 of the Speedometer buried at 120 and also see where the RPM Gauge will be at?

4000 RPM's, anyone else want to take a Guess? I know I will be wrong, oh well. LOL

My digital speedo and analog speedo stopped at 120. Had to use Waze to get accurate speed above 120. If I had let off the gas to “cruise” in 10th gear, rpm would have been about 3200 with 3.55s. Not on public road of course. Pays to have farmer friends with thousands of acres outside of any municipal jurisdictions 🤣

Are you suggesting oils with higher zddp or using zddp additive yields a significantly better mpg?

Trying to understand the title and the post. Is Motul high on zddp and giving you a better mpg compared to your previous thinner oil?

Nice truck btw. I like the displays.

Not sure if you're saying more ZDDP results in better mpg or worse mpg, or less ZDDP results in better or worse mpg.

Right amount of ZDDP reduces wear, but also can increase friction, which can result in lower mpg. Using the oil with the most zddp isn’t good! You need just enough for it to be effective in controlling wear without causing too much friction.

This is why with API SP, we see less (just enough) ZDDP in oils to help lower friction which in turn helps increase mpg.
