With all the reports of inflation, have tire prices gone up?

This is one of those things I really don't think about much. Tires are like fuel. If I need them then I need them, price increase is irrelevant.

That being said I haven't noticed anything crazy. But they would have to be going up 20 or 30% before I would notice. Not because I'm mister moneybags but really because I buy them so infrequently.

It used to be pretty easy to find several choices at Discount Tire for around $850, out the door, for 20" for the Mustang. Now they only "have" 1 choice that gets you out the door for under $1000, and they're not actually available, even though the website says they are. (I've discussed this discrepancy with them at length, and the mis-representation continues). I'm also noticing a lot of "On Backorder" as I scroll through the choices.

You know what they say about supply and demand.

Hopefully WalMart can actually provide these, as I'm done getting phone calls from Discount Tire a day before my appointment telling me that they can't find the tires I ordered on their website. It's happened 3 times in the last 3 years.

A couple of weeks ago I bought (4) General Grabber tires from WM online. I paid $114 each. My WM store had them for $122 each. I checked online at WM and they are now $122 each. My local WM now has them for $130 each.

Inflation has an interesting effect on human behavior and buying habits. As the value of money decreases and it takes more of it to purchase the same goods and services as before we generally respond in predictable ways. We may;

1. defer purchases
2. purchase smaller quantities
3. purchase lesser quality or less expensive alternatives

Tires? Option one could be troublesome if current tires are worn out
Option two is a false choice. Tires should be replaced in sets
Option three is a practical approach. There are beaucoup lesser known brands to select from. Quality tires w/o hyped, overly advertised name brands. Look there.

Yes they have. I was getting tire estimates for our 2017 Camry that’s going to need tires soon and couldn’t believe the prices. They are also in shortage too so that is probably part of the reason of the price increase too. We can’t get some tires right now or if we do it’s limited stock.

I've been shopping for tires the past few days and prices seem very similar to what I noted in 2018, when I last bought tires of that size.
With rebates and timing I think this purchase will be within a couple dozen dollars of the last one, plus or minus.
I don't see much of a price increase here - with install, etc, a set of Michelin Defenders or similar in my size is going to be $550 or so, similar to the price for the past few sets of tires we've needed in similar sizes.

Sam's Club has instant savings of $70 off Michelins and $80 off most other brands, in addition to $40 off installs if you're a Plus member, as a heads-up for anyone who's in the market.

Black Friday sales are not that far away. I have gotten last few sets of tires from Discount Tire Direct especially if they do not have a store in your state and no tax. And even better discounts if you open up a DTD credit card and put them on the credit card at no interest for 6 months.

List price probably hasn't changed that much but the rebates and deals are few and far between.

I picked up some 130 MPH rated Pirelli P4s in 195 65r15 for freak sale/ closeout but they still make P4s, they just want more for them.
