I'm looking to buy some wire wheels for my bench grinder. The diameter is 6" and the bore is 1/2". Any recommndations?

its to rip you off.

if you want brass... it is generally so because its softer and wont remove metal/leave scratches
when cleaning up something rusty for example.

brass coated is just a ripoff IMO.

other possible non ripoff reasons.

Wont rust as much as all steel wheel.
possibly better on certain metals like alum, and stainless.

When it comes to wire wheels for bench grinders, I am through with the Chinese stuff. I'm tired of picking out wires from my clothes and having the wheel wear out in no time. I use Weiler Vortec Pro wheels. For double the money, they last 5X longer without all the flying needles. The non Chinese stuff is hard to find, but well worth it. Its actually cheaper over the long run.

Ditto. I've used both. Coarse wheels are too aggressive for what I do. My bench has a fine wheel. I think the wires are 0.008" diameter. That's what you want to clean up threads, mating gasket surfaces, or plumbing. Here in the rust belt I use it chiefly to clean rusty threads.
