If my car calls for a certain size wiper, but it looks like a bigger size will fit without hititng anything, can I use them? Thanx

Using bigger wipers on my E-150 and Aerostar for years. +1 on better visability.

Okay. i got a bigger wiper, but now i cnt get the old one off. its a trico inovission blade and the other is a trico exact fit. The tab that i am used to is not thee and its this thing that looks like a T. Anyone know how I am to get it off? thanx

There is a reason that a manfacturer specs a certain size wiper and it may or may not have to do with safety. But, if you find a larger (never go smaller) wiper that works and conforms to your windshield the whole wipe arc, than you are probably ok. Me, personally, I'd stay with the OEM spec size.

I used to go bigger on every car I bought, now that factory blades give better coverage I don't bother.

I did have a problem with one out of many vehicles. My 72 Dodge Pickup wiper motor with oversized blades would stall with good blade on dry glass. The wiper motor quit after a few years. I replaced the brushes and lightly turned the armature on a lathe, it worked better than new after that.

A longer blade means less pressure per square inch on the blade surface so less wiping pressure on the glass and poorer cleaning. Some people reported this on other forums as a problem with the triple blade wipers.

Joking aside, this is a real problem with double and triple blades, as arm spring is designed for a single blade only and cannot exert enough force to engage double or triple the wiping surface. BUT they are sufficiently over-powered enough to engage 2-3 inches additional length without any problem.

One time, I was looking up wipers for my truck (98 Yukon) and noticed the Denali used a wiper that was 2" longer. The Yukon and the Denali don't have different windshields or anything, so I tried the longer ones. They were fine, but the driver's side one did run off the window a little, so next time I shortened them one inch. Now they're perfect.

Mine uses 20" and Walmart had a clearance sale on wipers... 20" was all gone but there was a 19" left. Scooped it up. No problem with it. Can barely tell the difference. I wouldn't use a 14", but a little smaller or larger should be no big deal.
