For the Canadian members, The low priced Canadian Tire winter wiper blades are horrible. I think the coldest part of the winter is over so I won't be able to post whether my replacements are any good.

I've always had good luck with Anco blades. Cleaning them periodically with a paper towel and washer fluid goes a long way toward good operation.
again for canadian members here, Cdn Tire has the Reflex Wipers. they are designed without the traditional spring, are lower profile (less subject to wind lift?). on another toronto board members seem to like them - the only drawback is the price - they start at $16. i'll try them when they next come on sale.
I saw a set of those wiper blades on an Audi a few days ago. They are so low profile that I don't think they could whipe snow off during the winter. Their blue colour is what got my attention at first as they are really hard to miss. I'll have to try them out as summer blades when mine wear out.

I get those cheapo refills at WallyMart and install new each September. I'm not cheap, just thrifty.
I second the Bosch reccomedation. They make two types. "Micro Edge" and "Micro Edge Excel" the excel is a little better design. I've had them on two cars for 2 1/2 years and counting.

I've always liked Valeo (Hella) wiper blades best.
Tried 'em all, spent a fortune over the years. The best are the Hydroedge by Anco. They work in cold temps and do not squeak and jump.
I like to use the cheaper refills and blades becuase the ICe Chews them up pretty quick if the windshield is not fully de-iced.
Interesting approach. When you consider the weather when you are out there cleaning the windshield, why not skimp on it? I can change blades in my nice garage.
Ice is bad, and so is salt. My wipers always take a crap sometime during winter, so I just go with whatever is readily available. Usually end up with Anco replacements about every 2 years or so. The AeroVantage frame they make seems to stick best to the windshield for me at high speeds without coming up and not clearing certain areas.
I would have said this too if you asked me a few months ago, but I gave the new Trico Innovisions a try. They look weird but are fantastic. The unique one piece design steel blade eliminates pressure points and contours the windshields curves very well. Theirs nothing to pivot or bind up. Long term results are unknown but I assume they will be as durable as the Boschs.
From your description, the Trico Innovision sounds like the Canadian Tire Reflex blade. These don't have the traditional 'sections' like a normal blade, but are one long piece of curved flexible steel that form very well to the shape of the windshield.
As an aside, I was recently at the Canadian International Auto Snow and noticed several cars (The Pontiac G6 and an Audi (can't remember which one - sorry)) that came with the Reflex/Innovision type blade OE. It's about time someone came up with a new design for the wiper blade.

For me, the Canadian Tire "Teflon" blade works well for winter. A bit pricey though. $18 CDN ea for 24 in. I get a lot of service out of them because I take them off in April, put 'em in the basement and use them again next winter. I use the lower profile blades in the spring - fall period.

No Ice or Snow down here in Houston usually, but I recently tried the Rain-X blades and have been very pleased so far.
What ever you do don't buy them from a GM dealer.
I dropped my GP at the dealer for some warranty trans work and the wife called and asked them to install new wiper blades.
I buy Bosch blades at $11 ea.
The GM dealer charged us $22.51 each blade and $9.60 to install them.
Needless to say I was not too happy with the wife.
She didn't think the blades would be a high priced item.
