Winterizing my lawnmower

When I winterize my lawnmower can I use wd-40 lubricant to spray the plug hole for the spark plug and to spray the underside of the lawnmower to protect it from rust. If anyone has another excellent lubricant spray that can do both jobs or any lubrication job to my lawnmower thats very good I would like to know please.

I would either use a fogging oil or normal motor oil in the spark plug hole. Leave the plug finger tight with wire off to remind you. In the spring remove the plug and pull the starer cord a few times to blow it out. Under the mower anything will work. best to remove or hose it off to remove as much grass as possible.

Seafoam deep creep would work and it sprays at any angle, its also available at most autoparts stores. Marvel Mystery oil would also work. Both are multi use so you can use up the remainder.

Absolutely. I am all for using what you already have on hand. WD40 however is mostly solvents, any oil would be better at preventing rust.

Fill gas tank with gas and Stabil type product mix.
Run for 5 minutes.
Change oil.
Store.
The first start up pull the rope easy a couple times and then start.
Been doing that procedure for over 30 years and never had a problem with Spring start up.

Last couple of mowers were a Honda for 16 years and now a key start Toro for the last 5 years.

Can I use grease lube to oil the underside of my lawnmower for protection from rust while lubricating it at the same time. I think its better than liquid lubricates because it would protect and stay on the surface much longer than liquid lubricates. Yes or no. If not any suggestions.

I pull the blade disk off, wire brush the underside with a rotary wire brush, and rustoleum it...

My Dad used to dilute some motor oil (probably used oil knowing him) with kerosene and pour it into an old spray bottle salvaged from the trash. He would then use this to fog the underside of his mower decks after each cleaning (i.e. weekly use) to prevent rusting.

Consider removing the air filter and keeping it where mice will not chew it for nest material. (Next to the cat's feed bowl in a baggie).

I am off of WD-40 for any use other than driving off moisture. It will become sticky when left to dry out. Others have recommended fogging oil, and this is what I have used for the last 5 years in my OPE.
As to the deck, I am now onto Fluid-film, which is lanolin. Smells interesting, and claims to never dry out. Works on the gun barrels to keep the bluing from corrosion, and hand tools for the past three months in my garage.
