I need to replace the windshield on my 99Acura. I plan to keep it forever, then rebuild.
Who makes the best shield, no distortion etc.
PPG,LOF??

I know the installer makes a difference, but that's my problem

I really don't think their is a best windshield. When calling I would ask for Factory glass. Thats your best bet

+1 I had a windshield replaced on a 97 Z-28, Rock got it. Insurance replaced it no charge (in Fl). Was PPG for a replacement and it was distorted. Called Ins. co and they said okay, take it to dealer and get factory (OEM). No distortion with factory. I believe OEM is best, especially with really curved windshields.

I'd go with OEM glass.

Dad had to replace a windshield in one of the work vans. The insurance company's "preferred" glass company replaced it, and the new windshield had a distortion right through the middle, from side to side.

He called the insurance agent to complain, his response was "it can't be THAT bad", and the agent came by to take a look for himself.

Yes, it was that bad. The agent called the glass company on the spot and asked them why one of their installers would actually waste everyone's time to install such a badly distorted piece of glass....

It was some off-brand I'd never heard of before. It was promptly replaced with OEM glass.

Fun fact-
Its a ticketable safety defect to have a crack or other obstruction in a windshield, but in most states you aren't required to have a windshield.

Always go with OEM glass. In addition to the visibility concerns you also have to keep in mind that the windshield also acts as a part of your vehicle's overall structural support. In that case, I sure don't want some overseas junk as my replacement!

If you dont want OEM, PPG, Saint-Gobain, and Pilkington are good. Stay away from Mexican and Chinese made glass.

Check for scratches around the window area prior to installation and take pictures around the window area. Inspect it before you drive off the lot.

I just got my windshield replaced today with a Chinese made one (my car is 13 yrs old so I don't care). The windshield has some distortion in the left corner, but nothing terrible. I didn't expect miracles for $150, installed.
