Free Program from Microsoft... Windows Defender can detect and also help remove spyware, scumware, etc.

The only change I made when I installed it was the time it downloads updates - scans your system.

Win Defender is a pain. It updates almost daily and while it's updating, the system slows down big time.

I don't know how effective it is and whether the slowing down is an acceptable drawback for increased protection.

Use SAS it's better than Defender

Windows Defender is awful stuff. Use something else. We had many problems during the extended beta. As a result, we don't use it all. Even if it's free.

Agreed. SAS is first-tier ASW at the moment, particularly their paid version.

I've found Defender fairly useless.
