Instead, I have seen casings pass through a more vigorous screening for quality, and they also have a higher scrap rates.

I have been at Ford in Windsor Ontario, Canada, where the 6 sigma quality assurance system is touted, even on the internal TV network at teh Ford plants, but I do question the actual productivity if the shipped product is held to the 6 sigma standard... which targets 3 to 4 scraps per million pieces. I have studied aluminum castings for years and still cannot figure that out, It is an ambitious taarget to say the least. Just the weather variations can affect that number!

Aluminum is a very picky material that needs the right amount of alloying to cast properly. Especially the harder alloys with more Si.

Hajoca, great stuff, how would you rate the quality of the engines made in Japan compared to other parts of the world?

Amkeer, FYI We see fuel adds used in gross overtreats or in a fuel diluted engines that seriously affect the oil analysis elemental wear and oil condition measurements.

BG , Lucas and even Nuetra treated engines have shown that. Now remember I have to go by what the customer tells me and I suspect that overtreatment and poorly maintained cars may be getting these adds the blame when it is a series of things affecting the oil analysis.

BG and other engine flushes really trash the analysis if not post flushed well with a lubricant or neutralizer after the cleaning. I hate those machines, they clean a few layers of carbon then eat seals and kill oil chemistry.

Point is if you are using any brand of fuel treat more is NOT better. Use the companies recommendations unless you are using a service like ours to tune the engine to the oil and fuel adds.

Terry,

Thanks!!!

Thats what I was thinking and you confirmed that. So its important to not overuse or overtreat and follow manufacturers applications. I have been using 1.5-2 oz. to every 10 gallons. The manufacturer suggests 3 oz to 10 gallons. I have since switched to 1 oz. to 10 gallons every other tank.

I am thinking about doing a used oil analysis on this run after the trip to Grand Canyon/Vegas which would include your services. This trip will put the oil interval at 6500 miles.

Just to clarify on the Lucas UCL, I failed to inform Terry that I had used the Redline Water Wetter and Cargo Copper Radiator Sealant(Had completely forgotten

) and only mentioned the Redline S1 and Lucas UCL usage. This was my first used oil analysis and realize it is important to state all the facts before reaching a conclusive analysis. My apoligy to anyone who miss took the used oil analysis on the UCL usage.
