I need to top off the reservoir in my Honda and the closest Honda dealer is 90 miles away. I have a Nissan dealer here in town and I have heard that Nissan, Honda and Toyota coolant is formulated nearly alike. I am wondering if the Nissan coolant will work in my Honda?

Should work fine - the "big three" Japanese automakers specify antifreeze formulated with OAT and a stiff dose of phosphate for hybrid protection. The only real difference is the color of the marker dye.

I was having my coolant changed last week at the Honda dealer, they were out of the official Honda premixed 50/50 antifreeze. The mechanic told me they were using Prestone antifreeze until they could get more Honda stuff in.

Harry I certainly hope that they didn't charge you Honda coolant price for the Prestone fluid.

I guess they're making the Moss-Magnussen Act work for themselves.

As long as Harry keeps his cooling system service receipt from that Honda dealer, he's safe as far as his warranty is concerned. Honda might balk, but he's got the dealership by the short hairs.

(Harry, I doubt you'll have any problems, anyway. I used Havoline DEX-COOL in my '96 Accord for over three years and I never had any reason to regret it.)

I just got the Peak Global Long Life for my Acura. The MSDS reads the same and I'll be **** if I was going to pay Honda 20 a gal for 50/50 mix. You can't wind up a 50/50 mix after you flush because of the almost 2qt of water that remains trapped in the system.
I'll let you know if the engine falls out or blows up. I put a blind fold on the car while doing the job so's not to shock her too bad.

You'll be fine. According to Peak's website, what you have is essentially an amber "dexclone" - 2-EH (potassium 2-ethyl-hexanoate), no silicates, no phosphates.
