Why is an engine failure not oil related?

I am not sure why my post about the engine failure in the 94 camry has been moved to the Maintence fourm. This certainly seems to be about the oil or the engine would not have burned up the bearings at 150,000 miles. The lubrication failed and the owner reports it was not maintence related. Of course the mechanic reports it was lack of maintence. I tend to believe the owner and have a real good feel for people selling vechicles as I was in the business of buying cars from owners for about 10 years.
Owner reports oil was changed every 3000 miles.

If the owner changed the oil every 3000 miles...he'll have 50 oil recepits to hand you, or at least 20-25 recepits from the warranty period.

If none of these exist, then it would be pretty hard to convince anyone that the car was taken care of, especially if the engine is full of sludge and has poor compression.

Based on the info here, admitedly provided by you

I tend to agree about the mechanic. If the mechanic didn't say specifically what maintenance the owner didn't do and how that was connected with the failure, he was probably shooting from the hip.

OTOH, a good reason for moving the thread here could be that the problem was caused by a lack of lubrication oil in the right place in the right quantities, rather than a lubrication oil failure. If that's the case, it wouldn't matter how good the oil was.
