That one is usually an exhaust leak.

is it possible that thicker oil (with certain additives), may leave a better film (moft?) and can resolve this particular issue (tick) when the engine is cold and therefore a better choice? idk just curious!

If you go to hemi forums where they have done the work, you would know it is right at 50% of hemi tick is exhaust bolts and the other 50% is lifters. You would also know that lifters/cam problems are not rare, often show up near the 70k miles mark, and if you use a dealer to fix it often costs 9 grand for a cam/lifter swap. The price varies from about half of that to 9 g's and many people are paying towards the 8 grand. The info is there, ram forumz has a large thread on it.

I will say for some reason there are a large percentage of people heavily invested in disinformation. but when you are the person with the hemi tick, tune them out as these people have zero clue. many of us have quieted the ticks, which of course is more like a knock. Redline 5w30 oil has proven itself as the best i our group, but it isn't the only answer, additives and some theories on mechanical fixes are out there.

Many hemi engines have had the tick eliminated with 5/30 redline.

My 2014 Hemi 5.7 is another happy user of redline 5w30. I've read and read and read trying to figure out why. Conclusion is due to internet birth and common sense you can find others with same problem and what has and has not worked. Hemi is performance engine and needs oil to accommodate that. When you try to take a performance engine and have it try to stay up with cafe requirements you get to the point where something has to give. My thoughts are why are you buying a performance engine and trying to keep up with cafe in the first place. Only way to do it with the 5.7 is run 30wt oil (VVT and MDS will still work fine) and if you can either buy MDS delete kit or tune it out or adjust it with manual shift mode and enjoy the days of the 5.7. They are very limited. 2019 has electric assist. HEMI 5.7 is changing.

Please note that Redline 5w-30 is more akin to the 0w-40 spec'd in the SRT than it is to your typical GF-5 5w-30. It's on the heavy end of the xW-30 scale like those historically targeting Euro marques, similar to a BMW LL-01 oil for example.

I am going to try to see if my exhaust manifold bolts are broken first...if not, Im game to try the Redline oil..either 5w-20 or 5w-30...
lots of debate on which one...owners manual says only 5w-20 but looks like many are running the 5w-30
