a COLD car? Thats just been cold started. It seems all my neighbours are like this and this is really ticking me off cause I always take it easy on my car for the first few blocks. I keep the rpms under 2500rpms and light shifts til at least I get down the street, onto the main street and pick up speed to get it warm. Its like maybe 10 houses from my house to the main street, I aint gonna red line it you idiots! I just dont get this whole mentality of everyone flooring it, slamming on brakes, flooring it, slamming on brakes.

Sorry I cant help but laugh each time, but everyday, every morning, of all hours I constantly hear people on my block starting their cars, backing out....and they gun it. Even in the -30 winters, doesnt matter, they still do it. I can hear it from my basement! Everyones driving their cold cars like their on a race track. Everyones in such a rush to leave in the mornings and its all about who guns it faster for bragging rights. And who can get ahead of the pack. Like really?

They just floor it when the car is cold to the end of the short block, brake hard, then redline it again to the next stop.

i mean theres even some people on my block who floor it in reverse out of their driveway. Just last week I saw this one guy, 6 houses from me, floors it in reverse and nearly hit a car parked across the street.

I always have to monitor and see if I can get away with no one behind me but often I get stuck with these morons behind me that get so impatient. We get onto the main road and they almost always pass me cause they all floor it. So what if they get impatient, im not wrecking my car and blowing a head gasket or my engine by redlining a cold engine. My car and trans does not get hot after doing down 2 blocks!

Or people after a turn will roar past me, then cut back in front of me. For what? to gain 10ft? Everyone on my block is so impatient.

dont let the things you cant controll stress you out.. when they break down, THEY can pay for it.. not your problem untill there driving habits become unsafe for neighbors.. then you call the law.

"Why do so many people think its ok to redline?...in a COLD car?"

I agree with you.

Explanation: Snookie now has her own TV show. That explains it ALL. If she can somehow warrant her own show (I now expect algae and crabgrass to have their own shows), then that thoroughly explains why some people redline while cold. It's the exact same gelatinous cranial sludge that causes all these phenomenon.

Most people don't have time to let the car idle for a half hour while they contemplate what to do all day. Excessive idling and long warmups are no good for it anyways.

Why do all the sportbike riders insist on rolling through the neighborhood in 1st and 2nd gear?

"I need the acceleration in case of an emergency...

It's 6:00 in the morning and you are rolling through at 9000 rpm on a cold engine. You really shouldn't be above 30mph anyway which should enable you to stop within a fairly short distance.

"Front brakes are too dangerous...."

What were you doing during the S.I.P.D.E. part of the MSF?

"I didn't take that. It's for noobs."

I agree its not good for any engine to redline it cold. I am having trouble picturing most of a neighborhood doing this every morning. Sure you are not embellishing this a bit?

You come stay here for a week and you will see what i mean. I watch some of them and cant help but notice it when they gun it like a hotshot 10ft from their house. Lots of nice cars behind my house, so they must think theyre some kind of big shot with their overpriced german cars. My neighbour in front of me I can hear here everytime she leaves the house cause she must get up to about 60km at teh end of the block.

I have people constantly on my block driving by with sqealing belts, grinding brakes, I can hear it. theyre driving their cars into the ground.

Every time I have to go somewhere, I start the car, drop it in R and before the clutches fill, I stomp the gas. This results in a reverse burnout which I follow up with a j-turn. Then Ive only just gotten out of the driveway.

Let them blow out something important one of these years. Just don't let them blow your head gasket over their foolish behavior.

I have a friend that turns the key-fob on his Ram and while the starter motor is still turning he'll move the selector to reverse and start pushing the accelerator pedal.

It hasn't broken it ....yet.

I don't apply any heavy loads until the OIL is warmed up. The temperature gauge is just for coolant, and that's not representative of the oil temp.

I guess this just shows you even though its not good for the engine they still work under this abuse. I have a friend who is hard on his car, cold starts in winter and nailing it from the first turn out of his neighborhood. Car still runs great despite the constant abuse.

Most people in my neighborhood drive pretty leisurely, but the streets are wide and traffic low so it's not a big deal. Pretty common here to stop your car to talk to someone. 99.9% of the time if you hear a honk in the neighborhood it's someone getting your attention to say hi, nothing more. Flooring it through the neighborhood is likely to get complaints. In fact, the HOA requested that one of my friends slow his Cobra down.

Get outside of the neighborhood though and things can change.

For some odd reason, the major menace here are the Altimas. I have not really noticed this phenomenon elsewhere, but apparently every Altima in Charlotte is a race car and needs to get to it's destination very quickly, without signaling, and with lots of weaving. There is a blind curve when leaving through one of my neighborhood's exits, and most people know this and are courteous when someone pulls out of the neighborhood. Not the Altimas...sure enough, when you see a car careening around the turn at 15 MPH over the limit, you can guess what it is. Normally I try not to stereotype other car owners too much, I have learned from BITOG that all kinds of people drive all kinds of cars, but this is a definite phenomenon here. I have discussed it with many people I know and they are in agreement, the Altima drivers in Charlotte are nuts and best to be avoided! No offense to Altima drivers on BITOG...I seriously doubt The Critic's mom drives this way.

Oddly enough, despite the usual stereotype, German car owners here are some of the more courteous drivers. They are the most likely to let you in traffic or something like that. Could just be they don't want a dented up pickup getting too close to their $60K car.

Seems like most people hate their cars and like making payments. Hardly anyone around here puts their car in the garage in winter, because the garage is too full of junk.

PS
What's a Snookie?

Out of all the things you have to worry about in your screwed up family, what other people do with their cars shouldn't even be on your radar.

Why do you worry about the speck in someone else's eye when you have a log in your own?
