...their post topics in the subject field and continue them in the main body of the post? Surely you can summarize well enough in the subject line before you hit the character limit.

This reminds me very much of people who put the entirety of their email in the subject line and the body only contains their email signature. Naturally these people have images, blinking text, fifteen contact numbers & misquotes in 27-point green-on-red Comic Sans. They beat their pets, eat steaks well-done, wear white after Labo(u)r Day, pound square (imperial) pegs into round (metric) holes with an adjustable wrench, have their oil changed at Jiffy Loob and demand to pay a premium for the engineered fiber media endcaps from the Rank group.

So, why do y'all do it? Hope to get people interested in your post? Create 'mystery' and 'intrigue' as to what pearls of wisdom lay past the ellipsis?

Honestly curious, despite how much I wish y'all would cut that [censored] out.

In my mind it is less formal to do it that way, but to each their own. I do it sometimes, but not always.

Same reason that folks have always communicated poorly...

Thomas Jefferson once remarked "If I had had more time, I would have written you a shorter letter".

Clear, effective communication requires education, thought and effort on the part of the author.

Those qualities are in short supply in the web age, particularly on blogs.

I couldn't say it better. It is a skill that must be developed. And is almost non-existent today.

This sums it up nicely. My comments are usually the definition of rambling...

The irony leaves a metallic taste in my mouth.

I do it from time to time to be irritating. Mostly when people don't possibly think I could be any more irritating.......

If I get a message that lasts longer than about 15 seconds, I just punch delete real fast. I'm not interested in a monologue.
