Why am I so tempted to use ATF+4

I've got a 2007 Mazda3, 2.3L, 5AT. Great car, but uses this stupid FNR5/Mazda M-V fluid. Can't find it but at the dealer, and I have used Amsoil ATF/Castrol Import in the car thus far. No issues. I have been really tempted to use some ATF+4 in the car, as I know it is a quality fluid, but I AM VERY AWARE it is not spec'd, etc. Any thoughts on what harm I would cause using it? Car has 10K left on the warranty....

I guess because I'm sick like that

Seriously, I see nothing special about FNR5 versus any other Multi Vehicle, etc, and everyone I speak to seems to feel the same way.

I would continue to use Amsoil ATF. Within a dollar of the dealer ATF and much better.

I would NEVER use an ATF that was not spec'ed for my vehicle. How dumb would you feel if it broke shortly after you used the wrong ATF?

You will be disappointed that ATF+4 won't shift any better than the M-V and Amsoil.

If you're willing to pay for Amsoil, I'd stick with that.

Give the ATF+4 a try and let us know how it works. But be prepared to flush it out in case you have shifting problems.

I tried ATF+4 in our old Honda. Great fluid, but it made shifts too soft. In my new '07 Honda, I use AMSoil and will continue to do so, even though M1 now has all the new specs.

How would they know? It's red and oily... and I've very rarely sent in an oil sample for any warranty job. Like twice in 13 years of mechanicin'.

Mazda can be very picky. they now require Prior Approval, regardless of the dealers warranty status. this includes giving all findings to the warranty hotline. if anything sounds fishy an engineer is sent out to do further investigation.

I wouldn't feel DUMB at all...If I did it, it would be after researching and getting input. My risk...
