Who's running Potenza RE970AS?

I'd put the RE970 on the 530.

FWIW, the 970 is getting much better winter performance reviews than the 960. Although the DWS is reputedly better than both in mild snow.

Running a summer/winter tire setup, you can also consider a summer-only tire. I tired of the bi-annual wheel changes, and just run a year-round UHP A/S.

I know. The only reason I went with all-season tires was because I thought I'd get longer treadlife. However, this turned out not to be the case. The 960s will get me a little over 20K miles which is very close to what I got out of summer-only Dunlop Sport SP Maxx.

Volvohead, a number of 960 owners complained about MPG's with that tire. Are you anal enough to keep fuel economy stats to make a judgement about the 970's?

I still like my BFG Super Sport all seasons as the best handling/response for spring, summer, fall UHP all seasons.
Crazy as it may be (especially for my car, axle ratio, and this tire's width), I actually put them on my winter wheels, and will try to make it through the frozen season on them.
If it turns out to be anything at all like last winter here (higher than normal temps, and NO frozen precip), they will be BETTER THAN a pure winter tire!

I don't track mileage AT ALL on the car they're mounted on. It just sucks down premium fuel and gives a good time.
