Who makes Walmart TECH synthetic oil??

Well, in my neck of the woods, we receive ST Syn from Warren Performance Products(WPP-stamped on the bottom of the bottle). In other areas of the country, I couldn't really say. WPP is a blender from what I understand and where they get their base oil from is anyones guess(but, I'll bet someone does know and will chime in). I've used ST Syn in the 5W30 grade and it seems OK! I haven't had any UOA'a done on it but, judging from others experiences with the ST Syn in the UOA section, I feel confident.

I believe it depends on what are of the country you live in. Warren Performance Products supplies most parts, but I believe Shell is also a supplier for other parts.

You'll have to take a trip to your local Walmart and inspect the bottles. In any event the oil is good value for the $. Their HM (high mileage) oil has returned good UOAs and so has the syn. I don't think I would do 10,000 oil changes with it but its decent stuff.

Basically Supertech is a decent oil for the money. A good bang for you buck, so to speak. My Dad uses it in his GMC Canyon with the I5 motor with 5k mile changes. I posted a UOA that you can may be able to still get by searching. Basically, the oil held up fine, but I agree with most that I would not do extended oil change intervals with it.

GMBoy, that isn't the HM

There is no SuperTech HM UOA.

Well the poster (in his original post) did not say anything about the HM version so go roll your eyes to somebody else. I was just trying to help here.

WPP is sole source in the US for SuperTech synthetic. Long term contract with Motiva for base oil, Long time user of Lubrizol additives. Their conventioanl oil uses an economy addive package. Their syn uses advanced package formerly found in GTX, still found in Durablend, and Kendall to name a few.

My local Walamrt has the HM in the red 5 quart jugs. This particular Walmart in NC seems to stock a mixture of Supertech. The regular Supertech is in blue bottles identical to Exxon Superflo except for the color.
I think the jugs of the HM run $7.87.
I was wrong I have never seen a UAO for HM.

When you can get the Chevron SL 5W30 in 5 quart jugs, $8.99 at Big Lots, why bother ruminating the contents of ST? They had 5 quart jugs of old Havoline 5W30 SM at Dollar general for the same price, and that was the OLD Havoline. I bought em out, 5 jugs, and the following week they had re-stocked.

I currently support 4 late model cars with Supertech stuff and have used it for over 10 years with no oil related issues to report. UOA always report good life left on 5K intervals.

I have yet to see a report of any oil related failure issues that can be traced back to the Supertech branded stuff.

Some people just get stuck on stupid when it comes to Wal-Mart branded Supertech oil. Confusing cheaper price with cheaper quality. If you can find another "Name Brand" cheaper or on sale, of course get it because of the better value not because it really is a better oil.

SWEET! I've had very good luck with SuperTech synthetic and have talked most of the folks at work into using it. Most of them are 3k OCI guys and ST Syn saves them money. Especially the guy who was using M1 at 3k OCI.

I never felt good about going past 3/4k OCI with ST Syn, thinking it probably had a lesser add-pack. Now that I know it's got a good add-pack, I'm going to advocate at least a 5k OCI...

Do you have a source you can point to on this info? I'll bet you're going to get a lot of heat from the SuperTech haters...

later,
b

This place is great for being laughed off the forum. Just think what they will say when I tell them that nearly all of the motor oil suppliers buy their base oils off the open market. With nearly all of the major brands, they buy from the different suppliers. That goes for Shell, Sopus, Chevron, Mobil, and many others. When I see someone say pennzoil uses base oils from this or that place, I just laugh. They all also formulate with whatever thay have on hand, mixing Grp I, II, II+, and III together in some cases. but mainly II and III, from whoever there supplier might be that time. The various company refineries sell their base oils to the various blending facilities, and they usually buy from whatever company is closest. ie... It would make no sense for a Chevron blending facility on the east coast, to buy from the Chevron facility in California, so they buy from the Mobil facility in New York.

Mannix, what about oils like PP or M1 though? PP is using, or supposedly using I should say, a specific base oil. Same with Mobil 1. They use only their own PAO/AN's. They do buy additives from all over. Mobil conventional oils maybe a different story.

Mannix; you seem to know more about oil quality and the actual mfg process than most on this board, and clearly exhibit common sense. Are you a fan of the Grp 3 syns vs the Euro Blends? I don't see any advantage with the "designer brands" sporting the grp 4 +.
