Does Fram make any private label filters?

I use AC Delco on my GM products and MoCraft on my Ford products.

Who makes AC Delco and MoCraft filters?

Does Champion make SuperTech from Wal-Mart?

Thanks

I know Fram makes some of Honda's OEM filters.

Champion makes ST filters (New e-core design just recently came out, jury is still out on their quality, just look down a few threads).
Champion makes some AC Delco, some are still OEM supplied. Not sure about Motorcraft, but they are not Fram or Champion made.

Fram makes the following that I am aware of:
Honda
Chrysler line up except for the Cummins
Penzoil
Quaker State
Deffense

Chanmpion makes the following that I am aware of:
Some AC Delco
Walmarts Brand
AutoZone Value Craft
STP
Duetsch
Bosch
K&N
M1

Puralator make
MotorCraft
The used to make some Toyota filter until Denso bought the plant Puro/Denso.

Baldwin and Hastings are owned by the same companys so their product lines are simalar but they are different in some area's depending on the filter. Baldwin or Hastings has a contract with Amsoil and makes most of their SDF line!

Champion Labs definately makes some of the Motorcraft line. Purolator is the primary source for Motorcraft.

Champion Labs has the engine plant contract for oil filters for Ford Motor Division North America.

FYI,

I can't confirm this 100% but from all the ones we have been cutting open the Mopar filters that are black are Purolator, and the gray ones are Fram. I have also seen mostly all black lately so maybe the evil gray Fram's are no longer offered through Mopar parts. Every OEM filter we hae cut open on any Chrysler has been Purolator.

Most every OEM AC Delco we are seeing is Champion.

About the E-core the failed units just keep piling up. The PH400 (3600) seem to be the worst. The pleats are coming loose from the resin/felt endcaps and leaving large holes for unfiltered oil to enter the center cage. Took one apart yesterday that had 3 pleats in the same spot broken loose, it was scary to see a large sharp flake of metal attached to the media on the INSIDE core of the filter.

lubeowner..
I'll be in the Portland area the week of september 26th.

Pick a day out. I'll help cut open filters and document them.

I'm curious as to what you are seeing when you cut filters open.

I have an E-core on my car, i'll probably change oil by then. I'll bring mine and we can compare.
Just changed oil and filter ( clicker valve type) last Sunday and sent off my oil sample for analysis.

Let me know what day of the week is best for you.

Yep, filters put on in the factory are Champion. You can't buy these filters, not even at the dealership. All of the motorcraft filters availalbe are Purolator.

So, you have cut open used "e-core" filters which are actually Walmart Supertech filters and you have found that the filter paper has become detached from the endcap? Is that correct? I would love to see a photo of that.

Some people have said that the Champion filter used at the Ford factory is "heftier" than the Motorcraft filter made by Purolator. Perhaps since Ford recommends the first oil change at 5,000 miles they are using a higher quality filter to collect the engine break-in material rather than having the oil changed out sooner, such as at 1,000 miles

. Has anybody cut open one of these gray Ford factory filters and compared it to the Purolator Motorcraft filter?

I still have the factory filter off my 2002 Ranger. I haven't compared them in awhile, but as I recall it appeared to be a Champion Filter.

I suppose I could cut it open and compare it to the over-the-counter Motorcraft (by Purolator) FL400S. From the outside, the two appeared very similar in construction. Both have front end bypass valves. Don't recall if the OEM had a silicone ADBV. I remember that the can of the OEM seemed to be much thicker.

The black Mopar filter I cut open for my Jeep about a year ago definitely wasn't a Fram. It looked just like a Purolator.

That will be a surprise to all those employees at Champion Labs who see Motocraft filters go down the production lines....

I don't know what the current spec differences are..but the OEM filter was a more efficient filter than the Motocraft branded one. The Motocraft filter on the can said "Long Life". The long life was accomplished with less efficient filter media and higher dirt holding capacity V the engine OEM "grey" filter..

At one time the OEM filter had the silicon anti-drain and Motocraft didn't. I'm not sure that isn't the case now. But I haven't asked recently.

Quaker State oil filters are made by Purolator, not Fram.

I think that changed some years ago when Pennzoil bought Quaker State ... which was before Shell Oil bought 'em both!

Quaker State is now Purolator Premium Plus.

When Shell bought out Pennzoil and Quaker State, that out-sourced their filters to Purolator again.

They are now a rebadged Premium Plus.

Excellent filters.

lubeowner,
I have to agree with you about the E-core filter. I've been using ST filters and have found them to be good filters, but since they changed them, they aren't just sorry, they're sorrier than sorry. I cut open all of my filters. When I cut these open, the felt if away from the filter ends where dirty oil can get back in the motor. I have only one thing to say: Wal-Mart, I will never buy another ST filter from you; and since you have dropped Motorcraft, I won't be buying filters from you period!
