I had a new 1981 Honda XL 250 as my first bike. Use Delo, Delvac, Rotella 15w40 in it. The engine makes a lot of heat going in the woods/trails at slow speeds.

I do believe it gets a bit warmer in SoCal than anywhere in Canada in the Summer. It has to do with that closer to the Equator thingy...sheesh.

I just ran a Briggs L head genset engine 15 hours and it burned not a drop of T6. This splash lube engine is hard on oil. Plus, it started on one pull after sitting out in 8 degree F weather.
