Hey guys,

I have two oil changes coming up and only one UOA kit. Which oil would you like to see analyzed?

1) 2011 Prius - 10,000 miles on Mobil 1 0w-20. 70% hwy driving. 59,000 miles on the engine. OEM interval is 10k and 0w-20 full-synthetic is the required oil.

2) 2012 Civic - 8,000-10,000 miles (not sure when I'll get to it) on Bulk Honda syn-blend 0w-20. At time of oil change, the car will have between 27 to 29k on the clock. OEM interval is to follow the OLM which seems to be calling for 11k intervals; Honda only requires 0w-20 (no requirement of full-synthetic).

At the moment, I'm leaning towards the Civic...but what do you guys think?

Actually for the record, the 2012 CIvic belongs to someone else.

X2 I vote for Civic as well but am not too happy about the unknown exact mileage.

The OLM on the Civic can have a wide mileage variation. If the owner did mostly city driving, the mileage could be at only 6k with 15% on the MM. There's just no way to know for sure. Because of this, I'm leaning towards the Prius if the known mileage is accurate but still stay firm on my original vote though.

Let's guess what the viscosity will be, assuming it's the Honda OEM 0w20. I say 6.5-7.0 cst.

I checked the Civic today and found that it had almost 7,000 miles since the last oil change, but the Maint Minder was still at 40% remaining.

I may be able to get to the car in 2 weeks so the car should have between 7500-8k on the oil by that time.

Run it on that car then.

Let the Civic run to 10K on its current fill and then UOA its oil.
This would be interesting both from the stadpoint of the oil and the validity of the OLM algorithm Honda uses.
OTOH, you might have bought the dirt cheap Wix kits off Amazon when they were available and you'd have had five UOA kits for the price of one, so there'd be no choice to make.
