which oil for 5.2L

I just bought a 2003 Durango with the 4.7L. I've got about 1200 miles on Mobil Drive Clean 5w30 GF-4. Doesn't get too cold around here. High 40's F. But I'm sure this oil will pour at very cold temps. Very quiet starts. Motorcraft 5w30 synthetic blend is a great choice as well. Others like HDEO oils such as 5W-40 Shell Rotella, Mobil Delvac, and Chevron Delo. When I hit the 3K mark, gonna switch over to Mobil 1 10w30.

I am having good luck with Kendall GT-1 synthetic 10w30 in a 5.3 V8 Chevy. Temps have been getitng slightly below freezing this year.

Heyjay might have some good tips for you. He's familiar with your climate conditions. You'll get a lot of feedback here, but everybody doesn't understand North Dakota weather like they do oil. I wouldn't run Mobil 1 0W-40 in your climate except in the warmer months maybe.
I think GC 0w30 would work year around for you. Of course with your Winters, I hope you have a garage, block heater, oil pan heater, etc.,etc. anyway.
If not and it's bad this year, maybe Mobil 1 0w30 for Winter season and Mobil 1 10w30 with some 15W-50 added for Summer.
At any rate a 0w30 syn with Winter coming for sure.

This is the single best analysis I have ever seen for that engine.
The year round oil for a climate with a record low of -49°F would be 0w30 Mobil 1 in my opinion. Just make sure you put in fresh oil around December 1. If your oil temp is always at least -22°F at start you could give Syntec 5w30 Blend a try.

I had a '93 V8 Dakota and I let it go at 135K miles over a year ago and it was on a diet of 10w30 Castrol GTX except for last 10K I went to 10w-40 to keep the oil pressure a bit higher. Didn't use a lick of oil and I saw it again today still cruising around town. 3-4K on the OCI over it's life. Last check with a real oil pressure gauge it was 60 lbs even at idle.
My grandpa is an all out dodge fan but I think that he has started to lean more to ford these a day. He has owned several 318's in his life. All he has ever used is Quacker State 20W-20. I am not sure why they just don't call it straight 20. But I have been changing the oil in his truck the last few years. This truck loves my diet of 10w30 in the winter here in michigan and a 15w40 in the summer. I think you would have no problem with a 10w30 or even a 10W-40 year around but as for me I like the extra insurance of the 15w40 in the summer.
