Where to get springs compressed

Hey fellas on top of getting the water pump changed, i also need new springs and shocks. Where would be a good place to get the springs compressed to install new shocks? German Auto Parts has a Bilstein Touring shock that are alittle stiffer than factory but not as hard and their HD Bilstein for 360.00. It comes with all the bushings...on top of that im also getting new springs front and rear.

I would check into autozone. They loaned the compression tool to me, but I bought struts there. they might be able to work out something for you even if you bought elsewhere. It was not hard to do.

A buddy of mine rented a compressor from there and said it was garbage...maybe it was that tool. I may check there, thanks.

I bought a cheap compressor set from Harbor Freight and it has worked just fine for me and it cost less than $20.00

borrown the set from auto zone or some other parts store, worked fine when i replaced my front struts.

Right. Borrow a tool from the place where you buy the parts, or rent a nice one. A bit of driving around, but unless you do this a lot, buying a good one is not worth it.

Thanks. Is it possible to get a spring compressor too small as in length? A buddy of mine got one from AZ. Im assuming the springs on a Audi and VW may be simular in length. He said the spring compressor he rented was too small in length to compress the factory springs.

It is possible to get a compessor that is too short to swap springs, the compressor may not lengthen enough to have no compression on the spring to release it. But all of them should allow you to compress a spring, remove it from the old strut and put the spring on the new strut.

It should compress them enough to get them out and back in.
