Where did ARX, GC, and Havoline go?

GC- It's got its own section ..and it's almost (I think) a decade of old news.

Havoline - Deposit Shield nearly doubled the price.

Havy DS...is $11.50 for 5qt jug at my local walmart so since you stated it doubled, did it use to run about $6 for a 5qt jug?

About 5 years ago I would take $20 to Advance Auto to buy a case (12 quarts) of Havoline and 2 AC Delco oil filters. Now $20 won't buy the same 12 quarts without the filters. THAT is inflation!!!

But it still has almost 200 ppm and a 30-40 ppm dose of boron to go with it, that's more than most conventionals can say.

My guess is MMO got labeled Snake Oil from people who never used it. JMO

I use stabil for moisture in ethanol fuel, and mix it with mmo just for fun and i dont have water in the tank and injectors and carb stay clean, works for me............

It was a sleeper oil. Always cheap. I figure (my opinion) that Havoline couldn't gain any market share via discounting. Hence some marketing weasel came up with a reinvention ..asked the chem-geeks to tweak a few things ..and viola~! ..they did some ad campaign and (NEARLY) doubled the price of the stuff overnight. Keep in mind that the rolling production costs of one conventional oil over another are just about identical.

I don't think Havoline ever qualified for the 5 quart at Wally's before DS.

No need. I just never saw much Havoline presence in my WM. Before I ever got around to using it (in my typical BITOG wine tasting) ..it went through the DS evolution and went out of the sleeper oil status. It was no longer a deal.

For nitpickers...the term "doubled" means closer to double than it was to 150% of its former price. I don't think that they brought ONE DIME of added value to the consumer in the evolution.
