Where are have all the Hummers gone?

The other day I saw an H3, which didn't look too different from the SUVs around it. We have a dealer, Hummer and Cadillac of Metairie, but I don't see very many of any stripe.

They've disappeared in my area too...which is surprising, considering how SUV-crazy people were around here. That said, I saw one yesterday and it had me laughing: Totally washed and waxed (we've had rain/snow everyday for two weeks now), chrome accessories from front to rear, after-market wheels, a cargo cage on top & the obligatory red gas can (for tough-guy emphasis).

Oh, and a chick was driving it. Didn't notice if she had an iced caramel brulee latte though...

Down here everyone has dark tinted closed windows so you never see who is driving any car.

Based on where you live, it must still be a pretty rare sight. I'd think you'd be more likely to see a Prius guiding a pack of naked bikeriders than an H1 owner w/hunting motives.

Actually last Saturday night a X transit bus [now privately owned] was making a turn from 7TH Street onto Ocean Drive and almost took 2 people out when he jumped the curb.

That's hilarious!! (Bad, bad mental image) That fits Seattle. Not so much the eastside and certainly not Duvall. Have you been through here?

It is true that I see a lot less. Sitting for sale in various lots all over - since likely most were leased, they are probably sitting as GM inventory someplace.

I do see them still though, and usually their drivers are driving like they have a bit too much testosterone and something to prove.

I think they look a bit ridiculous but aren't they built fairly tough under the body, heavy duty shocks, transmission cooler? When my parents were looking for a tow vehicle (5000lb rv trailer) the H2 and Chevy Avalanche were recommended by a few people.

The other day we were filling up at a BP station. Then two SUV-s pulled up to the front of the gas station, one being a Hummer, and a group of Sikh-s got out of them and went in. When the Hummer showed up, I wondered out loud to my wife on "who drives these things nowadays". When the Sikh-s got out, she joked "People who own gas stations".

It was politically incorrect but I think it's closer to reality than not.
