When drifting goes bad.

thats pretty funny. i bet they brought a set of tyres and wheels just for drifting. they probably changed them out at the track and forgot to put the lugnuts on.
thats the only thing i can think of as an explination.
 


This was not a drifting event, this was an Auto-X event.

But anyway, the video has been posted all over the auto-X forums a few weeks ago. Information from people who were there is that the wrong sized lug nuts were used. They were actually torqued with a torque wrench when installed, so everything seemed OK, but the stress of the the attempted auto-X run basically caused the nuts to come right off the stud due to the limited thread engagement between the nut and stud. Supposedly, once they got it back up in the air, they were able to re-install the wheels with the correct lug nuts without issue.

given that Oz has had a myriad of thread forms and sizes over the years, we had a safety alert recently for lifting equipment.

Some thread forms go together, and appear secure, but don't hold.
