Yup, 10 months of hot temps and 2 months of cool weather down here. I wished we got cold temps for the holidays.

A few weeks ago when nights were getting cool enough. We run at 66 when home, drop to 58 during the day when nobody is here, and drop back to 63 at night. That's what goose down comforters were made for. Peak gas bill will likely be about $150 for the month in Jan or Feb. (off peak its around $20 - gas range, water heater, dryer, as well as 1 fireplace and furnace).

I have not put my heat on [electric heat] in 7 years...Not even sure it works...The a/c stays on all year long in Miami-Fort Lauderdale...When it does get cold [every once in awhile for a very short time] there are alot of house fires when some people put on their space heaters.

I turned on the heat early September @ Vancouver BC Canada. If it's a warm year, I can turn off the heat for 4 months of the year - June 1st to Oct 1st ... but that's pushing it.

I'll remember that when like last Wednesday night being out when it was 11F degrees at the start and when I ended my work 6 hours later it was 2F...

Funny I did not feel very lucky.

Or really much of anything even with all the gear on. The wind kills me.

Everything has its good and bad. I was happy to get back into the truck and try to defrost.

As of now investigator/"baby sitter".

With the current economy who knows in a few months? (tax revenue is the main source of the states money)

I may be wishing for the chance to freeze my rear end off!

Take care, Bill

Tell that to the people in Buffalo who just got 3 feet of snow over the past two days!

Weve been getting down to freezing at night recently, but we havent turned it on yet other than when my grandparents visited. An extra layer saves big bucks and pays dividends.

We dont naturally "deserve" 70 degree homes in the winter, and if you choose to, then you cant necessarily do something else. Its all an accounting game in the end all.

Eventually we will turn on the heat to 62F.

The coldest we get down here is the mid 40's but as soon as the sun rises it quickly warms up to the mid to high 50's.... really not that cold at all.

Don't some states help people pay their heating oil ?

I think there will be lots of cold people this winter with people very tight on their budget/bills.

We started the boiler during the first week of November.
When the inside temperature gets below 60F mornings, and no longer warms much during the day, it is time for heating.
It has not had to run continuously, as we have had some intervening warmer weather.
Two weekends ago, it was warm enough that I washed three of the cars, and had the pleasure of one last warm temperature oil changes in two of them, as well as replacing the starter in the '97 Accord.
It has been cold for the past week, though, and we had snow flurries, with accumulating snow forecast for this weekend.
We leave the house temperature at around 65F all of the time.
Warm enough to feel comfortable in sweats while at home, and cool enough for comfortable sleeping under a quilt or two.

About a month ago. I can't stand cold weather. I hate having to pile on clothes, and its even worse because I usually go to work early in the morning.

I can't wait for spring to come around again.

How cold does it get in Charlotte? I guess if you used to a wearing a T-shirt all year anything near freezing is unpleasant...
Here its been sort of like winter for the last few days, with highs below freezing and a constant stiff wind from the north. Enough that we are actually burning a couple armfulls of wood a day.
